Around here, Meijer is NON union. It must vary in different areas.

Ah I stand corrected. I just know so many companies here in Illinois have to be union RM. That's why you never see Toyota, Honda, etc come here.

If you never worked big box retail you don't have a clue how s****y they can treat you.

I worked for Lowes for 1 1/2 years. I was hourly+commission. #### health care. Was always in the tops in sales! I got awards for different things. They wrote me up for something I didn't do. I didn't do something per management instructions. It was a month later! Of course this was after 3 weeks of my highest sales. They demoted me, and sent me to a different department. About a $500 a month cut in pay.

New department I took off running! That department was up 195% over the previous year! My department manager said it was due to me and another guy that had 5 years in there.

My zone manager told me the new store manager had an unknown problem with me. Told me to find something else. She wanted to make herself look good by getting me out and getting someone in there for $4 less an hour.

They tried to make me quit. I thought I had a job lined up selling for a different type of retailer. it fell through and Lowes finally fired me.

I don't give a floogie where you work in this silly country, the workers are getting screwed on a grander scale than ever before...........

I'm glad Walmart bust Unions. It just cracks me up to no end when they get Unionized and WallyWorld just cans them all.

Why doesn't the teamsters try and unionize Swift?

the union did absolutely nothing for you, we didnt have a steward or anything.....and they had so many teenagers working there none of them had a clue what a union was for or how it can help you

i think the union only benefited the people who were career kroger employees like the 20 year cashiers.....ill hold my tongue on that
I used to work for Meijer. Non of the stores in Indiana or Illinois are union. All Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky stores are union. Not sure what good the union was doing them because they were only getting a few cents more per hour and had to pay dues.

If some of these people would get out of their BOX once and a while and read what goes in in the world of the rich they would have a clue.

Just reading the Forbe's Richest 100 in the world would be enough to see that Wal-mart is screwing their employees.

The 3 Walton Kids that run Wal-Mart were #13,14,&15 on Forbe's richest people at worh over 65 million each. If they had listed them as a Family they would have made Warren Buffet and Bill Gates look like Chump Change. Buffet was list as the richest in the world and the first to Break $1-Billion mark. Waltons added up are worth $1.95+Billion.

Wal-Mart could share some of that wealth with the ones that help them get it instead of trying to monopolize the Retail Industry. I guess they missed the Business class that cover the fact that some competition is better than none at all.

Yeah those that work there don't have to if they don't like it. They would be right down at the UnEmployement and WelFare lines the next day. Some may even be getting wel-fare cause the just just doesn't keep up.

As far as those that don't like UNIONS you might want to slow down and think a Minute. Jimmy Hoffa was a trucker/Dock hand that helped get truckers some of the benefits they see today. Lumper pay, Lay-Over Pay, No Forced Driving any a few others. In his days you were forced to help unload your load at no extra pay. You were forced to wait off the clock for loads. Only pay you got were when the tires were turning under a load. You couldn't turn down a load no matter how long you had been running. if they had a load YOU hauled it or went on a permenant vacation.

Alot of the Rules/Regs/lws that we see that have made Trucking safer were pushed by the Unions. Now that the Gov't has got their hands all over them they are all FUBAR and with stupidity.

If you can't go into work tomorrow and go see the owner of the company about an issue you have, then you need or will need a Union eventually.

OF COURSE Not all Unions are worth a #### and some should be shut down. BUT if people would learn how the system works and work it you can get even a bad Union Turned around.

What people miss and it is pretty sad because it is happeneing everywhere. The meaning of the word UNION!!

You can't have a successful Union and alwasy thnking about ME & I !!!

If Wal-Mart is shutting down stores to Bust UNIONS that tells me they didn't need you or that store in the first place. They are just being greedy and putting local businesses out of business.

Personally I wish Wal-Mart was made to return any of their abandoned store sites to nature or Sell them to another Business.

No bigger eye-soar than an Abandoned Wal-Mart.

Another one for you Union haters.

My father joined IBEW in 1970. They sent him to school for 4 yrs and gave him a part time job while he was training. When he made Journey-man he made just as much as any other Journey-man.
Today he makes between $28.50 and $32/hr depending if he's a Worker, Foreman, or General Foreman on the job.
He has Insurance, & Retirement benefits I only wish I could find outside of a Union.
It also helps that his company is owned by a man that was also a Union Electrician and the Companies are parts of the Union Contractors Organization.
All these Non-Union Car plants everyone brags about. Well they hire Union Labor to build them. He just got out of the Kia plant just outside of Atlanta.

Again not all Locals are the same. I have heard crappy reviews of IBEW at other locations but 613-Atlanta has always been good. They even have 1 company ut here in Iraq qith me that is from 613-Local.

Hmmm don't remember saying I hated the union. I think I remember saying that it should be up to the individual retailer whether they want to be union or not, just like the car plants. Illinois needs jobs bad and yet we can't get anything due to the state demanding everything be union. You know Toyota, Honda, Kia, and others will never agree to have a union so that's why you see them go up in the surrounding states.

I just know from personal experience that I worked in a plant that was union and they did nothing for the workers but take our dues.
