Back in the day was "Then"

It is now "today" and the New World Order is rapidly advancing,Unions are short lived and will soon be overtaken.

One thing to remember, unions are only as good as the members. It is just like this nation, the government is only as good as those WE vote in.

I am not a union driver but isn't that what we all expect from our companies? The reality is that most put in an honest days work but the pay is just not there.

The average otr driver is paid by the mile. All other on duty time is not paid. I guess it is fine if you get the miles but what about the other on duty time? Not compensated? How honest is that?

Back in the 1929s when unions first came on the scene they were very good for the workers, but over time with a lot of labor laws being enacted they became power grabbers, and they have outlived themselves. As a union rep. my jop just seemed to be protecting guys jobs who really didnt want to show up for work or do a good 8 hours of work.So yeah,I think unions have outlived their usefullness.
Maybe the union isn't the greatest thing but at least, for the most part, they get paid for their time. Thats a lot more than I can say for the rest of the hard working drivers out here. Not all but most. Present company not included.

I think the Union has had its place of good and bad. But ppl. need to realize they have made so many demmands the the companies are tired of it.we need a good wage, Benifits and a lil RESPECT for what we do. If laid over you need to be paid or recieve a motel room in xchange. Dock time we need to be paid equail to ur mileage af ter the 2nd. hr. You should never unload the product. We need to help each other but it seems that everybody is in a big hurry and wants to bad mouth each other. Pointing the finger at other drivers. We've lost the last chance to clean up are own bk yrd so BIG BROTHER is slowly taking over .We need to unite and stand as 1..Union and none Union. Together we can make a big difference.

I never liked unions. But with the way that management treats employees today, I think that we need more unions not less. My feelings also are that whether you like unions or not, they have a tendency to bring up the wages for others in an industry. They also strike fear in the heart of management that there company could be subjected to a unionization, helping the average working get treated better. We can see this with FedEx.

However I think it speaks volumes that workers at Toyota, Honda, etc. are non union but do not complain about their wage/benefit package which totals around 40 dollars an hour versus at GM where it easily tops 70 an hour.
Where have you been ? The unions won't budge ? Tell that to YRC drivers and warehousemen and other union shops that have given concessions taking pay cuts and giving up benefits . You haven't heard about UPS and Waste Management not budging and having employees removed from the Central States Pension Plan ? [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. Better get updated on that GM 70 dollar an hour wage/benefit package .

Just after Ford Motor Company announced third-quarter profits of nearly $1 billion, its UAW-represented workers rejected a package of concessions including a wage freeze for newly hired workers and a no-strike pledge when the current contract expires in 2011. The concessions would have put Ford’s labor costs on par with those that GM and Chrysler obtained earlier this year. Those concessions, in turn, brought the companies’ wages and benefits down to the levels of the (non-union) Japanese manufacturers with plants here. They came on the heels of bigger wage concessions for newly hired workers, which UAW workers accepted several years ago.

I belong to a union and it has its plus and minus. Senority can be good if you have a good number and you don't have to worry about friends taking care of friends and shaft you out of a job. On the other hand I would rather be working with some of the people who are layed off right now. I always hear we are our on worst enemy but companies are too by not doing what is right. Didn't airlines cut a lot of union work and now we have to pay more just to put a suitcase on the plane! I don't have nothing againts company positions such as CEO's but they have hit the lotto. Golden parachuts for doing a bad job. Gawd Washington Mutial CEO made millions and destroyed that bank and another CEO took his place for a week and he made millions. Car CEO's flying private jets to DC for a bailout. In my book unions are not hurting the car companies. The car companies made bad choices pumping out SUV's like under-wear durring the 4 dollar gas and customers stoped buying and people are still nervous of getting big vehicles. Toyota even had to eat the big one on the TUNDRA. My experiance unions don't control production that is the company behind closed doors. Less demand union workers will feel it.

We are all being played! Durring the 4$ gas the toyota dealer in my area was stuffed with tundras and they slowly went by by with lower gas prices with deals. Once they were gone, they were gone, no replacements!!!
