Advice on trucking and leaving kids behind.

Well my boyfriend and i ,are both recently divorced from our ex. Me i'm 32 married for 12 years and have been a stay at home of 3 children, girl -13, girl-11 ,and my baby boy -5 . My boyfriend 37 has been doing construction for years and has a 11 year old boy.Well we decided to become truckers and hop onto a truck,(start training next month) all of our kids will be with our ex's till we can save money and get back on our feet.We are giving up our home and pets and life as we know it for this. Is it worth it? Has anybody even done this before and give me some advice? I'm scared but willing to try this out. Please help thank you.

Thats an awful lot to give up. What about the legal issues, like custody, etc. You may need to look at that.

Hi there, Welcome to the forum.

Have you considered a local trucking job? I went into trucking when I had a young child, I started in a local job. I have never gone over the road. It is still long hours, but at least you are home daily to see the kids. For a long time to save money, my husband ( who drove for the same company ) drove days, and I drove nights to save money on child care, and the kids were always with one of us. Many people told me that as a new driver I would notbe able to find a local job, they were wrong, there are a lot of local jobs out there.

Good luck with whatever you end up doing.

FF

I'm not a trucker, only looking into trucking as a potential career change opportunity.

One thing I hadn't really thought of until very recently is that I'd have expenses on the road that I don't have at home, mostly for meals, but also for showers and laundry. From everything I've read so far, it takes practice to become a money-savy OTR driver.

ARE you BOTH really 100% committed...NO DOUBTS??

YOU do realize that living on the ROAD, you have know roots. Always depending upon others for showers, etc......

YOU eat, sleep, drink the road.

ARE you both willing to give up everything for that?
