Dear Luvmyhubby,

That is a lesson I am trying very hard to learn. As I am fairly new to the trucker wife lifestyle (6 months ) It is hard to readjust ones thinking.

But I am working on it daily.

Again thanks ladies this site has been a life saver

Take a basic course in plumbing-Knowing how to shut off the main valves is a really important thing...(experienced in this one lol)

I can't think of anything else that hasn't been discussed here.
I too get that reaction from alot of people. (that head cocked to the side poor you look).
Trust and good communication is the foundation. Everything else can be handled easily as long as you have those to factors

omg I don't know what I would do. My bf just started and we know that he may not be home on some of the holidays but not home for any of them!!!
I guess all you can remember is that he's prob broken up about it too. He probably wants to be home on holidays as well and it is a big sacrifice on his part just for $$ so he can provide a better life for you.
Its like .. he loves you SO MUCH he's giving up every holiday and happy time to make a better life for you.

The only thing I can say about your S/O being gone over the "holidays" is one they are just dates on a piece of paper and two...you can celebrate when he is home before or after.

My husband has NEVER been home for Thanksgiving, so we make a huge meal and have family/friends over whenever his hometime is closest to that date.

Dates do NOT make a celebration, the people you share them with do.

Being a truckers wife/SO is a job of and in of itself; enjoy the time you have when they are home and celebrate everytime that big rig rolls in the dirve.

Trailer

There right the holidays are just a date on a calender. There are alot of things you can do to make things easier.

I am a card person, from time to time I will hide a romantic card somewhere in the rig where I know he will find it.

I will also buy him a specific cards for the holiday's to open on the holiday.
Also for birthdays and Christmas I always buy him a small gift that he can open on that day while on the road then his real gift is waiting for him at home.

Just remember that yes it is very hard on us when our men our gone, but life on the road is no picnic either it is just as hard if not even harder on them.

So enjoy there home time and plan your holidays then another trick if there working through Christmas but will be home shortly after Christmas leave the tree up a extra week or so and have great family Christmas when he comes home.

Best of Luck
Dez

Yup, my hubby and I had this coversation last month...For last two years he has some home for Canadian Thanksgiving and American Thanksgiving....But both years he was not home for Halloween...

I told him, we can have a turkey anyday! Come home for Halloween this year, and that still gives us time to save for Christmas! Works out perfect!

Was thinking for Christmas this year am going to give him 365 letters/cards...then he will have one to open everyday, and every holiday! Might sound corny but that's what asm gonna do! LOL
