question from a newbie

my hubby just left for his 21 day training driving with a trainer for UsExpress. This is going to be hard, going to miss him, but I know I will be okay. My question is finicially we have very little and what we do have is for bills, so hubby being stubborn, took very little money with him., when do they get there 1st pay? He has his debit card with him and I worry about him eating, I stocked his pack with as much unperishable stuff as I could. I posted this in the new driver forum, but no one responded. Me and my hubby are doing great, this has been something he has wanted to do and I am proud of him, I know his nerves are out there, but I know he is going to do fine. I am from Louisiana by the way. Close to the texas side.

Well I will tell you just from hearing he took litle money with him you got a pretty decent guy. The story I usually hear is that the guy is spending every penny in the truckstops and sending like $300 a week home.
by the way my wife and I are in the middle of moving to TX, near the LA side

Us Trainee $$

Well, I just finished up my training about a week ago and it took 4 weeks instead of 3 (about 29 days instead of 21). Anyhow, I wanted to let you know that after taxes, I cleared about $245 a week. As a student, you can get a cash advance of $100 each Monday if you need it off of your card. I never did that, but at least it is available. He should have gotten the $50 from orientation too. I just started teaming with my husband about a week ago and I am having a wonderful time. It seems like it takes forever to get through their stupid training, but it is well worth it. I am really enjoying USXpress. They keep us rolling too. Hang in there and tell your hubby he can ask me questions anytime or you can ask me for him if you want. We live in NC, but are based out of the Tunnel Hill Terminal in Georgia. Tell your hubby not to worry about the written test or road-test. It definitely wasn't anything to worry about when I took it in Georgia. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for all the responses

He is doing fine, finished his 1st week training, starting the 2nd week. He only got 113. 1st week, that was direct deposited and I texted him and told him so he could take out some and eat on. So far he is liking it, he is with a fairly decent trainer, he will be glad to be on his own though. Yes he is a decent husband, and I love him dearly. I have a new appreciation for truckers, always respected them, but now alot more. I say a prayer each night that my hubby is safe and well out there. Praying all of those truckers are safe and make it home.

what's the update

Just ran across your post and wanted to see how it is going for you. My husband and I are totally new to this. He will be training (has CDL learners) but once all is completed I plan on riding with him starting late spring. So, how's it going for you?

MsSage,

I have a question that I don't know where to ask? I know this may be strange for some but here it goes. My husband CBtrucker is in school and doing great and I know it will not be long and he will be driving. He would like me to ride along and I think it would be nice once in a while. Here's where I am a little unsure. I am 5'1" and do not have a lot of strength in my legs like most people due to some health issues, steps can sometimes be a challenge. Is there a way others have found that helps getting in and out of the truck? I know the kids mentioned a small step ladder. Just not sure what others might do. So new to this was wondering any helpful hints.
I love this site and it has been a real help to us in this new life we are starting.
Thanks
