OH!! Those two days that come before Monday??? The ones where I mow the grass, weed-eat the yard, do the week's shopping repair the cars, and wonder if he is ever gonna be home to do it for me??? I guess you call it hometime. But I'm usually the only one home.

He can try running a skateboard. I was home almost every weekend when I was running one OTR. Sometimes had 3 day weekends, sometimes 1/2 day to 1 day. Usually they will get you home though.

Since it seems silly to start a new thread on "how I'm feeling right now about the trucking industry" this one will do just fine. Since I last posted about how many days my s/o has been home it has only increased by two days. Let's see I believe that was a month after. Luckily I was able to go with him afterwards. He dropped me off an hour from home on the 23rd.

Now we have him "scheduled" to be home on the 16th, although, if we tried maybe he could have came home inbetween time but he was headed for PA with stops inbetween instead. SO...no route towards home yet. They also told him that he couldn't bring the truck home. So the few times he's been home we've picked him up an hour & 1/2 away.

When he called the other day & told me he was headed closer to home, Idaho I believe, but had to take a load to Utah, I cried, silently, & waited to hear when he'd be close enough to hop on again. I am planning one more trip with him before summer is over. I think Friday.

Looks like routing home for this company is a no go for the most part. I guess we'll try more often when he has more time with the company. (sigh)

When brokers know they can count on you every time, they are more likely to send good loads your way. I've had to work at it from that end too.

As an owner op, you're more likely to be dealing with just a few brokers/companies. As a company driver, I deal with 2-4 dispatchers, who deal with 2-20 customer reps, that have 20-50 companies they represent. Lots of loads....

And TRUE, the load may not get here on the exact day I want off. So I have to take an additional day, as a rule. A day earlier, or the day after.
But, I'm willing to do that if it means getting the day I want. To do otherwise would be totally unrealistic/insane.

The company I am currently with. I am dealing with "hours" not days. I want to be home Friday....it could be 12noon, or it could be 9pm. Occasionally (rarely), I hit a snag and don't get in until saturday morning. But that works too

I still stand by what I said. I was not just dealing with only a couple brokers. I had access to more than one freight board. With hundreds of loads and freight agents posting.
When you want an exact load to go exactly where you want it to, on an exact date it gets really tough to make it work. And then try to do it over and over every weekend with hundreds of drivers. Not a major headache I would want!!!

if the company promises to have you home in the beginning, then you will be home. If not, you can't expect to just be home on weekends. Weekender companies deal with shorter loads and most of those are closed sat. and sun..

Yep it is hard at times. I bet everyone of us on here has had a few of them dealing with hometime. I guess if he was home every weekend he'd earn less money for the most part. He has a goal of making a certain amount and I don't think that amount would be attainable if he did come home on the weekends. I don't think we really realized that in the beginning. The reality was only driving, not how long or even where to, but driving. At least he's got that one down! I don't think he wants to go local or even regional just yet. I wonder what the winter will bring???
Thanks,
Penny
