Holiday/birthday gift ideas

Hopefully, my husband won't be looking here in this room at post because I am looking for Christmas gift ideas for him. He is a "trucker to be" as he has weekend classes scheduled for January (he was to start this month but I got cold feet about him being gone and the cost of school was $5000 - needed more time to save money). Our intentions are for him to go to weekend classes for eight weeks, go with Maverick or TMC for flatbedding and I am to join him after his training and waiting period is over. Longterm plans are to be owner/operators within two years.

Now, back to the reason for the post. Christmas ideas. What would be some of the best items to get him that he will use? He is a very practical guy and doesn't ask for things for himself. Plus, his birhtday is in December.

If you are a trucker.....what would you want that you probably wouldn't buy for yourself?

We are in the Deep South and I am sure he will need some items that we wouldn't think of normally for Winter driving.

Well, my husband can't drive without a GOOD insulated coffee mug and thermos.

And he has a really nice leather brief case for his maps and other important papers, etc....

I haven't even thought of the briefcase for important papers. Thanks.

Yeah, you want to hear weird......He doesn't drink coffee unless it's well below freezing.

I don't know much about what he might need in terms of truck related goodies: ie, coffee mugs, warm jackets, warm socks, etc but I bet what would surprise him and keep him going would be a homemade quilt from you, a bottle of your perfume, and a scrapbook of your life together so far. And once he gets his own rig remember to crawl in and hide cards where he can find them later.

If you sew at all I have an very cool lookin and quick rag quilt pattern or you can look it up online. My first one took me 4 days start to finish. And the really cool thing is you can use any type of fabric........old night gowns of yours....hint hint......a pillow case from your bed, last seasons flannel sheets, anything.

It just a thought and something I'd do.

Love the idea of the quilt.....one problem, I have never quilted before. But I can learn. The worst of it, I don't even sew my own buttons back on my clothes...You guessed it, He sews them back on for me!!!LOL I am so spoiled that's why my tag and sign-on is "Welluvd".....just a fancy word for spoiled. It helps being the only girl in the house!!!

But the cards, is something I love doing even now. Every so often, I send him cards to his place of work, in his lunch, or in his work truck. When I used to go on the road with my work for more than two days, I would mail all of my men (two very large teenagers) cards the day I would leave and they would get them while I was gone and know I was thinking of them.
