Woman Sues Walgreens Claiming Prescription Error Caused Miscarriage

Quote:
Missouri couple is suing Walgreen Co., claiming that a pharmacy error caused the wife to have a miscarriage, according to a Bloomberg news service report carried by the Chicago Tribune.
The suit, filed last week in federal court in St. Louis, claims that Chandra Givens lost the baby she was carrying less than a month after a Walgreens pharmacy mistakenly filled a prescription for prenatal vitamins with a chemotherapy drug.

The suit goes on to fault Walgreens for not properly supervising pharmacy personnel. A Walgreens spokesman declined to comment on the suit, saying the pharmacy had not yet seen the complaint.

This is sad this had to happen, but all parties are responsible here. No medication should be taken unless confirmation is made as to the prescription issued by the doctor. Medication is distributed with the explanation of what it is prescribed for and the side affects. They should have read this information. If they had, they would know it was incorrect.

If the wrong meds are in the bottle, how can reading the instructions work? Some pills even resemble each other. I think a picture of the pill should be stamped on the label. NO confusion then.

You are absolutely correct, mech! I've received the wrong pills in a correctly labeled bottle three times from my local pharmacy. Fortunately, each was a refill and I recognized the difference in the pill. Twice it was an entirely different medication and the other time it was double the dosage prescribed.

While it's an inconvenience, I now take my family's new prescriptions to a different pharmacy. Same chain, different druggist. And I do not hesitate to call the pharmacist over to verify that I, indeed, have the correct medication.

Once so long ago, in basic training I was given a tube of muscle ointment by mystake. I was suppose to have a creme for feminine irratation. Could you imagine if I hadn't been paying attention? I always double check, but how do you know if you never seen the meds before?

I've had similar incedents happen, but never with such dire results! I was once given erthromycin (sp?) instead of ampicillin (sp?), in a bottle marked "ampicillin" with the product description and directions for usage for ampicillin. Luckily, it was a refill, and I noticed the difference BEFORE I took any, I am allergic to erthomycin.

I'd be kicking some druggist's ***!!!
