| The whistles do not work. The only thing you can do is be super observant and hope it doesn't happen to you. Far as I know, there's really nothing you can do to be sure to avoid it 100%. |

| You see a lot of those whistles...but no they don't work. I know some people will argue that point. But I've seen as many having hoods and bumpers replaced with the whistles, as without. Avoiding critters in the road, is a matter of luck for the most part. As many of them run into the road from the nearby woods. You never see them, until it's too late. Main thing, reduce your speed at night. Look as far down the road as you can. Pay attention to ALL movement within your field of vision, even if they (animals) are way off to the side of the road. Use high beams as much as possible. The animal issue is a real b****, as many companies try to stick you with an avoidable accident.

| The proper way to avoid such animals?? Well, as one of my instructors at my CDL school said, "If Bambi gets in your way, Bambi will loose his assets." I don't think those deer whistles work that well. I've found that a blast of the air horn works if you see the deer/elk/moose standing near the roadway. But, if the critter comes into your path DO NOT swerve. Hit that sucker, pull over to a safe place and assess the damage then call your company. Better to do that than to take out a school bus full of nuns and orphans, or a minivan with 4 bratty kids and a soccer mom.

| You mean to tell me that a Co will charge you with a aviodable accident if you hit a deer? You are just jokeing right? ![]() |

| Every company I've ever worked for would NOT charge you with a preventable accident if you hit an animal. Now, if you avoid hitting it and instead take out a guardrail or another vehicle you better believe it'll be a charged preventable. There may be some low rate company out there that might try to pin it on you, but with camera phones and digital cameras being as easily accessible as they are these days, I doubt it'd ever stick if you had sufficient evidence immediately after the incident.

| I always wondered about those whistle things, I guess I have my answer. Of course, there is nothing so out of its mind as a deer during mating season, they sure do some crazy things. They sure seem to be running with blinders on.

| The whitstles don't work for deer, but they do attract little orphan kids, which are just as fun to run over. Most animals can't hear the high pitch noise from the whistle, but for some reason those little orphan kids love it. |
