A Ring and a Promise?

Well, Ladies and Gentlemen, my daughter turns 16 on the 6th. And the sweetheart we have been discussing has already told me he has every intention of taking to my hubby, and then taking Jolene shopping. (With Cindy and William with them!) For a Promise Ring!

He says he will, with my husband's permission, be buying an engagement ring for her 17th birthday.

At this point, all I can say is "Wow!" I just had to share.

Wow!!! So young!!! I hope they're waiting to actually get married at least a couple more years - or are they the "old before their time/mature really early" types?

My daughter is 18 and acts 25 so I know all about that one. She got her first b/f less than 6 months ago and is planning to marry him - HE's doing all the planning, too! Sound familiar? LOL (she's known him a lot longer, of course)

He says they will NOT be getting married until she finishes high school, at least!

But both of these kids have been thru so much that they have the attitude of "life is short, why screw it up wondering what could have been?"

My daughter watched the grandfather she adored die of complications of Alzhiemer's and cancer, and watched the effects of cancer on an uncle and a grandmother...

And her sweetie has lived thru Hell.

I didn't marry my sweetheart at 16. I knew the statistics, I was too young, young miltary marriages don't last, blah, blah, blah. So instead I went and screwed my life up by marrying a jerk. Sure wish I had married for love and not been so analytical about it. He married someone else and they are still happily married.

I met the man who became my hubby when I was 12, and he was 18. I HATED him! He was one of my uncle's friend's son. They were working on an engine, and I got in the way, and he PUSHED me! Seconds later that engine fell. Right where I would have been. Didn't matter to me. I hated him. And I abused him. I dumped coffee on him. I threw tools to him. Whatever I could think of to be an obnoxious little brat. LOL!

I fell head over heel in love with him when I was about 16, but he didn't have a clue until I was 17. I married him at 18 and haven't been able to get rid of him since. Not even on a PMS day!

She's had other sweeties, but this one is different. He WANTS to be around the whole family. My hubby doesn't scare him. Uncle Bob doesn't scare him like he did the others.

He has plans for a future, and he adores her. With the way he treats her, I wouldn't care if he was a completely HOPELESS doofus. They make each other so happy, and I wish them joy. They both need it so much. I almost wish she were older.
