This just annoys me...

Who in their right mind uses disinfectant on every last surface in their house? Have seen the same commercial 4 times this morning, "keep your family healthier! Use (namebrand) disinfectant spray in your kitchen, use (namebrand) disinfectant wipes all through the rest of your house. Make sure you wipe all those horrible germs off all the doorknobs, light switches, handrails, etcetcetc...."

Now, really, maybe I'm an old crank but that seems just nuts to me. I am careful after preparing raw meat and the toilet and vicinity get disinfected but... well, you know?

(then there was the feature on the Weather Channel about finding germs during spring cleaning. OK, folks, I'm skeert of those monster germs lurking in the corners and on my bookshelves. Imagine. Germs?)

It is the overuse of these disinfectants that leads to the drug-resistant bacteria out there now. Not to mention, exposure to low levels of germs is what builds up our immune system. Children raised in that "TV commercial clean" environment are actually sicker than kids raised in a real life environment.

That explains why my kids are so healthy. And the grandkids, too.

Mine were raised in an old farmhouse that never got warmer than 55 in winter, it leaked snow around the windows, they got filthy dirty playing in the creek, climbing trees, playing with the dog, all that kid stuff. The house was clean but there wasn't a lot of disinfecting done except for the same thing I do now. We had dogs and cats, critters of all kinds, and I can't imagine the amount of "germs" they grew up with.

I am not a fanatic about disinfecting on a daily basis, but after an illness (flu or cold), you can bet I am, as my daughter almost died as an infant from the flu and cold. Mainly slick areas. She was left with lots of lung damage and a few little germs could be bad news for her. So I make sure that most areas are taken care of such as door knobs, toilet handles any slick and so on. Germs can live up to 72 hours on a slick finish.

That's what disinfectants should be used for, for people with weak or compromised immune systems. Unfortunately, with the overuse now, it is creating superbugs which will further place your daughter at risk. I hope that your daughter continues to remain healthy.

Having worked in a school environment I too agree with you.

After having been really sick for a long time I'm kinda a germ freak especially with bathrooms, showers and I refuse to get into any type of hot tub or heated spa.

Oh so agree public hot tubs are disgusting
I remember taking the boys to a Ramada for a little weekend swimming winter vacation
Are attention was taken to the hot tub with a guy showing an employee a tied off condom that was floating in the whirl pool. He wanted his money back, I wanted another drink.
Yuck

NA, NA, NA, NA, NA, NA, NA
I'm not listening.
I love hot tubs, and since I don't have one of my own it is a rare treat to stay someplace with one.

Well, jeez, at least it was tied off.....and maybe they were rapidly approaching the end of the 36 hour Cialis, and they "gotta go gotta go gotta go right now"....
Or, on second thought, maybe you're right....yuck.
