| I'm all for self defense class, and I don't know of any hand to hand altercation that isn't close range I was just saying your leg is a lot longer than your arm. And if a person doesn't know how to swing a flashlight they probably aren't going to know 3 different techniques to try and then step back and re-evaluate, nor would they have the time to do it. I was merely trying to add to the discussion like everyone else if it's not helpful well sorry, I'm not exactly a big guy and I know what its like to be attacked because someone see's someone smaller than them and thinks they're an easy target as I was jumped once by 3 guys (but only once) knock on wood it doesn't happen again.

| Don't take my last post wrong. I was not coming down on you. I was just saying that without proper training most women will not be able to fend off a male attacker. I have had extensive training in martial arts and kickboxing. I have been trained in self defense and pressure points as well as take downs, chokes and holds. Most self defense classes will not go into detail on such items, but will train a female on how to be alert and escape some situations. Everyone has a fight or flight syndrome. Most just don't know how to channel it.

| I've been working the evening shift and when I leave the nursing home at 11:00, it's downright creepy. They make us park our cars way around the back of the building and there isn't any lighting. I wish they had a male security guard to walk us out, but it is what it is. Thanks for the tips.....I'll keep these in mind when I'm speed walking to my truck. |
| ||||
| I might add one thing to what tarps said...I had an excellent female instructor 30+ years ago...some things I remember some things I hope would come back as instinct...she trined us to react instinctively not "try" to remember how to respond...there is a difference...BUT I think a woman should take the course several times every year or so...like I said it has been over 30 years for me....I need another course....it needs to come as a natural response..so girls if you take a course take it again you will stand a much better chance of surviving an attack......

| I grew up with three brothers and numerous uncles. I learned self defense from them. And I learned some stuff from a good friend who was a Green Beret. I was taught so well, that I was teaching the self defense instructor. But I truly need to take some more classes to refresh my memory.

| Hijacked trucks! [quote=Lil'Devil;585160]Female drivers need to be especially careful out there. It's not a good idea to tell anyone exactly where you are going or where you plan on going to sleep, and never tell anyone what you are carrying. Trucks get hijacked all the time, and drivers have been killed for their loads. That is scary...what is good to carry in the truck...a bat...crowbar...mace? Pepper spray...oh and i read somewhere that some guys carry wasp spray to shoot out the window at lizzards that won't go away!!! Really...i read that on here somewhere. |
| ||||
| When I was out on the road, and ready to lay down to sleep, I would take my seat belt and pull it through the armrest on the doors then latch them. I had to really pull it to get it to latch, but I promise ya one thing, no one was getting in my truck without me knowing about it. You would be surprised at how many times a drivers keys will open the doors of other trucks. |

| Never allow yourself to be taken to a second location. Make your stand where you are. It will not get better for you down the road. Ladies...strap your doors together from the inside using a rachet strap Do not walk between trucks. Walk around them and down the middle of the driving lanes as much as possible. I travel with my dogs and as such have to walk them in the dark before bed. I use my flashlight and watch the entire area around my truck...especially between the tractor and the cab. A friend of mine was surprised to find someone standing there when she got back to her driver door. |

| Also if you can, curl your fingertips toward your palm with your palm jutting out. You can smash your palm upwards on someone's nose, act like your driving their nose through the top of their head. That should slow 'em down. I like to have my big Lab/Shepard with me. No one would even get close enough to me to do any harm. |
