Ladies, did you know that your elbow is the strongest point on your body?

God forbid if you ever get attacked, remember to use your elbow if you can.

Women are usually easy targets when it comes to assaults.

Always be alert and know your surroundings.

If you sit in your car after shopping or eating lunch or talking on a cell, please remember to lock your doors and keep your windows up so that a hand cannot get through.

There have been times that I have come out of a store to find a man sitting in his car right next to mine, and when that happens, I have been known to go right back to the store and sit on a bench till I figure out what he is doing.

Another thing I do is always make sure that my car is in tip top shape so that I can hopefully eliminate any break downs.

Also, if someone does ask me for directions when leaving the store, I face them from the front and never let them stand to my side.

If attacked, try and get a swift kick to the knees!

Someone following you in your car, call 911 and drive to the neartest police station.

While I walk my dogs, I carry a knife in my pocket (tad bigger then a pocket knife), but I also carry a homemade contraption, kind of like a walking stick and of course a phone. I don't go far from home and make several trips around a neighborhood that I feel comfortable in.

Just some thoughts for you gals out there. Things are getting much worse now days and Iam becoming more alert. I hope you all do to.

Do NOT allow yourself to become TOO comfortable in any surroundings! If you do, your gaurd is down and too many things can happen. Trust me, I know this from experience.

Thanks you guys! I hope others will chime in with advice too. A female can never have enough advice concerning safety.

* I have heard that if an attack occurs to yell fire instead of rape or whatever else. Chances are nosey people are gonna look if they hear fire.

* Also car alarms works wonders of a night time....especially in quiet subdivisions. If you become suspicious that someone is around your home hit the panic on your car alarm. 3am in the morning, someone hears it, they are going to look and the possible intruders will more than likely run. Honestly, try it just once and see how many lights in the other homes come on.

When you are home alone, remember to keep your doors locked....I know its a pain to get used to BUT I HAVE had complete strangers just walk right into my home!!! Never knocked, just walked in and I didnt hear them.
Talk about getting the you know what scared out of ya.

Each time they were looking for my dog grooming business BUT it made me VERY aware of the danger for sure!

If you go out at night, have someone come in the house with you, make sure everything is ok before they leave.

Take your cell phone to bed with you, if you need to make an emergency call and your house phone is disabled, you can always call 911.

Never show fear. Walk confidently, even if you don't feel confident. If you exude a don't-mess-with-me aura, attackers may just look around for easier prey. I always walk briskly and keep my head up. I have yet to be attacked (knock on wood). I've been in some dangerous situations, too, not just in trucking. Pre-trucking, I worked in a factory second shift, and I walked home at 2:00 in the morning. I found if I walked quickly and purposefully, people would actually go out of their way to avoid me. That was fine with me!

Body language speaks volumes.

Female drivers need to be especially careful out there. It's not a good idea to tell anyone exactly where you are going or where you plan on going to sleep, and never tell anyone what you are carrying. Trucks get hijacked all the time, and drivers have been killed for their loads.

Just because you are talking to someone on the CB radio doesn't mean he is your friend. There are a lot of good people out there but be careful because that man you are talking to could have other intentions. I don't stop with other drivers for coffee breaks, I don't want them to get the wrong idea, but if you choose to do so, just make sure it is in a public place.

Just use common sense, if a situation doesn't feel right get out of there, be aware of your surroundings at truck stops and rest areas, if you bring attention to yourself all the time be prepared for attention, if you want to be miss flirty on the CB you may attract some unwanted attention.

I've been told to carry my keys with one sticking out between each finger so if someone attacks me I can hit them in the face with the points of the keys.
I've heard, if someone hijacks you and tells you to drive, run into another vehicle. It will draw attention to you and the hijacker might even get out and run so he doesn't get caught.

Those are things I've heard about that I thought might help someone, but what I would really do is another story.

I have a CC permit and a 9mm Glock and I know how to use it!!! Of course, I'm not a trucker, my hubby is. Who do you think got me the gun? It was my Mother's Day present a couple of years ago. Nothing says "I love you" like personal protection.

Your advice heard made me think of actually running to another car. So thanks!!

If you're grabbed from behind and they tell you to go to your car (I'm sure they'd wait near by your car if they watched you go in though) go to another car, or maybe in between four front ends and give it/them a swift kick to set off the alarm/s. If you are grabbed round the throat/neck from behind, reach for their LITTLE fingers and yank them back.
Chances are their grip is too tight to loosen, but little fingers are much weaker, and once pulled back, the rest of the hand goes too!

I've had to do this once working in ER, and it works!!!
