One way to help you get thru this is to realize it could be worse. I am a OTR driver and if you think this is bad. I have deployed twice. Trying going a year and not seeing your wife and kid. When you feel it is overwhelming think of our brave men and women who are deployed in harms way. Think how their loved ones feel. Your few weeks will seem like a breeze when you count your blessings.

You are merely in a adjusting phase. So is he. This will pass. Be strong, there are a lot of ladies on here that send their hubbies off rolling. They are good to connect with. They understand and will help you!

It took me awhile to adjust to this. When he first started, I was the world's biggest whiney baby if he was gone more than overnight... now, GET HIM OUT OF MY HOUSE!!!

Thanks Notarps4me - I really do have to think of it that way. I couldn't imagine with the bf decided to enlist instead, he would be gone for much longer which more much risk to his life. I can't imagine how I would feel knowing he's be gone a year. I never knew how hard it was.
After my sob fest, I went to work cleaning the house. a bedroom, 2closets and a bathroom later I feel SO much better.
Plus the bf called inbetween and it was so good to hear him. He is excited, he is down about missing his family and birthdays coming up, etc. but he chooses not to think about that because .. really because he has no choice. He chose to train for this, spent thousands on it, accepted this job, unemployment is gone, for better or worse he is in this for a while.
But he is excited and hope's this is a good experience and that his trainer is a good guy.
Then my sis called and she can talk a mile a minute so I let her run on till she tired out.
Still feel too wound up to sleep after my manic cleaning, I'm going to relax with 'The Tudors' (LOVE THAT SHOW) and then going to bed.
Thanks for being there.

Your welcome! It will get better. I did not mean to come off harsh if it sounded that way. Once you get into a routine it will be a lot easier. I talk to my wife and kid everyday and try to keep involved in their life as I share mine with them. A person is designed to overcome and adapt if you focus on what it takes to make it. Nothing wrong with letting us know how you feel. We all get down from time to time and we all have trucking in common. We are one big support system here. We all been there.

You did not come off harsh at all. It does me well to look at the big picture and some of the things that other people have to go to. Sometimes my vision narrows and I think my sorrows are the only ones in the world, and of course the worst things only happen to me.
I have a lot to smile about. I need to remember that. I called the bf up at 12:45 since his trainer was supposed to come at 1 (and I was still up). He had been up since 6am for class till 5:30, then diiner, and then did the routing and didn't get to bed till 10 I think. And then up again in a few hours to get dressed and packed for the trainer.
He was sooo tired. I felt so bad and told that I appreciate all he's doing for us, he's the one making the most sacrifice living on a truck. I really hope he's one of the ones that makes it as a truck driver. It's sucj a different life for both of us. His job before this was a customer service manager for Sears. A sedentary office job. It's so much to take in..

Hi all! My DH has been on the road for almost 4 weeks now, and has 3 1/2 weeks to go. This is his first real trip, and he's loving it. It's been hard on me and the girls, but we're adjusting.

I bought a big map of the US and we're tracking him with pushpins and string, and we'll sometimes pop onto Google Earth and track him that way too. It's interesting to see how many miles they travel in a day.

I'm so thankful I found this site, it's been so encouraging to know that there are others out there, going through the same thing and feeling the same things too. Everyone else just kinda shrugs it off. I've never felt so alone - it's like my friends and family don't know how to relate, so they shrug it off. Either that, or they're afraid they'll trigger a cry fest or something (unlikely... I save that for the shower)

I'm also extremely thankful that my DH's partner is our neighbor, whom I love and trust. While the boys are on the road, his wife and I kind of team up and take care of everything else - yardwork, house management, etc. I can't imagine being thrust into this lifestyle without them on our team.

Me: Heather
Married 2 years, been with DH for 3 1/2 years, friends for 8 years. Between the 2 of us, we have 3 girls, ages 12, 12, and 13 and a cat.
DH isn't on a dedicated route yet, hoping for something to come up soon.

Sounds like you have a great neighbor which is nice and I am sure kind of reassuring for your hubby, at least he knows you have someone to turn to while he is gone that understands. Welcome to the forum theres lots of support here 24/7 for ranting when things get you down and for laughs too.

A cat peed on my bed last week, twice. Now I have to take em both to the vet to see if one is sick or if they were just having fun. I've been sleeping on the couch. I've been dousing it in every cleaning solution possible but the smell won't come out and bf comes home labor day so I gotta get a new mattress by then.
I also got the new adapter for Comcast but after 24 hours and 5 different people they finally admitted it doesn't work so I gotta get another one of those, my self because a technician can't come for a week.
Plus my car was leaking water for some reason, inside. Got the cabin filter fixed for almost $200 but the carpet now smells from old car water.
I feel like stupid #### is piling on and little by little breaking me down.
And I've come to the realization that though I've always wanted kids I don't think I can manage going through a pregnancy and having kids while he's away for weeks at a time. Kids are years off though, who knows what'll change by then. It just kinda hit me this morning as I was crying over the stupidest things that I can't handle much while he's gone.
*** went to get the adapter and they were out ... great...

It will get easier, with time. You will find your strength, and figure out all the little tricks that help you pass the time, and get things done.
I know that doesn't help much AT THIS MOMENT, but you will find lots of folks here who will listen, and help you through.
