Yea I think I'm typical in the afraid to try and afraid to fail category. Not much of a risk taker because of it. All of this sounds exciting but a whole upheaval of my life is scary too because a lot of it depends on the bf and his job - if anything falls through job wise we'd really be stuck because currently we have no savings.

But on the other hand I consider myself pretty lucky. Anyime a job fails or a relationship fails and I'm devestated, something comes a long pretty quickly. I'm never knocked off my feet for long.

My mom is very .... judgemental but also a lot of what she says is true. I've learn that she's not always going to be happy for me. But also she's had a hard life and doesn't believe in luck or hope much. She doesn't go through life thinking that things will turn out positive for anyone. She always believes the worst will happen (though it usually doesn't). I'm prepared that if the bf agrees to all this and I lay out my plan, she will not like it. She prob purposely won't help, because a lot of time she thinks that if you don't follow her way then you don't need her help and she is not required to help you and when you fall she will tell you 'I told you so' because that is how you learn from mistakes (you're first mistake being you didn't listen to her in the first place). I still, for a while now, have been doing what I wanted - and not always behind her back lol

I am a packrat - since moving to my apt 2 yrs ago I cleared out a lot of stuff. Everything in my apt is all I have. My furniture I can get rid of because it may not even fit or go in the next house we end up with. I have many many albums, too many to take on the road. But I can store them at my parents. Most of my current pictures are on my computer so I'll leave the modem at my parents as well. I have so many clothes but you can't take much on the road so maybe I'll sell them too, winter is coming maybe I'll sell my whole summer wardrobe? I have so many books I've yet to read, I'll store them. I'll have plenty of time on the road to read with no TV. I guess I'll sell my stupid little knick knacks as well - maybe not all but most. I have so much make up and bathroom toiletries. I guess my mom and sis can have them. All my dishes/pans can be stored. My movies can be stored.

The cats are the only issue - I'll read up around here on those who have cats with them. I know some truckers do but usually it's 1 guy and 1 cat, no 2 people and 2 cats. I'll read up how they live with their cats on the truck... maybe we'll end up a cozy happy family...

I texted the bf and he hasn't gotten back to me. I may be making plans way ahead of myself. Maybe he won't think it a good idea...

I contacted the one woman I knew who was a medical transcriptionist from home. I only knew her on myspace and I wrote her but she hasn't been on her page since June. Maybe she abandoned her myspace, she may not get back to me..

Take things slowly. He has to finish his training so you're not in any big hurry. It took us a year to make our life change.

As for pack ratting.......girl I come from a long line of them. It's bred into us. We're trained to it and if it was an olympic even I'd be wearing the gold home.

It's amazing how free you can feel without all the "stuff". Seriously. For me it was like letting go of the past. I still giggle at the thought.

Just clothes alone. All the "grown up - church lady" clothes that I hated and wore to make others happy. GONE oh yeaaaaah.

Anyway. Slow down, take your time. Make no decision in a rush. *smiles*

Everyone here has said some wonderful things, and given absolutely amazing advice!
I can think of only one or two things to add...
As Nana so wisely said, do NOT live your life afraid of change, failure, or newness.
All of these things can be, and are, wonderful !!!

And two, if you & BF go OTR together, keep several outfits for EVERY season, on the truck!! ( I learned this the hard way! Mid-winter in Ohio, to So Cal, with nothing but sweaters, boots, and winter coat!! I was SWELTERING...ended up at Wally world for some tanks and shorts! LOL)

And, even if you don't go OTR with him, just a trip here and there, you will LOVE it! I especially love the southwest, with the beautiful sunrises!

oh yes! You'll always need a coat! Seriously, I needed my coat a few weeks ago when I spent 2 hours inside the 34degree reefer at colton, restacking tomato pallets.

No! No hurry! I guess the point is that you are in a position that some of us didn't know exisited at the time (was always there...)

You get to draw your our road map of your life...sometimes you'll be at a cross roads, maybe a restricted route or two, some bumps, some mountains, some storms and a whole lot of clear blue skies! But don't forget to LIVE!!!

Take a deep breath and enjoy the ride!

I wrote bf and said "what if I quit my job, sold my car and worked online in the truck with you?"

He said "wow, don't do that, it's not a glamourous life"

I just wrote back " I'm not going to do it tomorrow and I'm not doing it for glamour"

Not exactly the response I was looking for. I mean, does he think I can't skip a shower?

OK, how about this? Before "jumping on in there", how about, when he is allowed a passenger, and you can get some time off, take a trip or two with him?
That will give you both an idea of what it will be like, to be together 24/7, in a moving box, and all the other negatives?

If you both enjoy it, THEN, implement these plans...
Some couples, actually enjoy the togetherness, while others, well, not so much...
Everyone is different, but all the suggestions you've gotten so far, are right on the money.

Plus you didn't quite approach it the way we did... too cute!

When he's got time to chat tell his all about what we've all been talking about, about the questions you have asked, about the answers you've gotten...Then see what he thinks...

Am giggling to myself....sometimes a man's best ideas, are the ones we let him beleive were his! In my household anyway!

I gues he needed a night to think about it because now we are talking through tetx. (He's not driving). And he really thinks IF we do this the cats should be declawed...
I've never been for declawing and they don't really scratch much but I understand him wanting to protect the truck because damage to the truck falls on him.
I don't even know how much declawing costs and how much time the kitties would need to recover...
I'm trying to compromise. He's coming home this weekend so I can better discuss it face to face.
I don't know....
