i went with my husband for a week once and Im going again soon. I never slept so good in my life which was surprising because i didnt think i would sleep at all. Take a book or movies or something to do thats not bulky or requires a steady hand otherwise you just might go nuts. My hubby is usually a pretty calm and patient man but I seen a side of him when he was trying to back up into a spot that was rediculously angled that was kind of scary. LOL. But it showed me how his week goes and how amazing he is for doing what he does. I gained alot of respect for him and to be honest there is nothing sexier to me then my husband when he climbs down from his big rig. If you can get time from work and kids I reccomend going with your spouse because its a great experience and the entire time is quality 1 on 1 time. And the bonus is you can catch up on your sleep.

Hello, i am new here. My Husband left on March 7th , i have been told not to expect him back for 3 months after that. But i have heard that is alot due to the company that he works for. He was a recent grad and it was the first place to say yes. I did get to see him twice, but thats because i drove to him. Its alot harder then i thought it would be. He is in traing right now so a barley even get to talk to him. I have 3 young sons and the adjustment for them has been very hard. Just make sure you have a good support system if he goes otr. I could have never made even this month without my friends and family. Our plan is to let him get a year or two of experience and then try to get a local or regional job. I hope that things go well for you and your husband.

Hi I just found this thread! Boy I wish I would of found it back in Jan. My husband started in Jan and we have 2 young girls (very dependent on daddy). His last time out he was gone for 8 1/2 weeks. It was very tough on all involved. I have met a fellow trucker wife on here and if not for her I would of thrown the towel in a long time ago. I will check back in reguarly now that I have found this thread. Hope to help when needed.

Hello, my husband left on the 7th. I am having a really hard time coping. So is the oldest of my three boys.He will be five this month. He has been very emotional. Just yelling and crying and acting out. I am really unsure what to do with him. I have sat him down and tried to talk to him about it. He will not open up. I also have really tried to focus on having special one on one time with him, but with a almost 2 year old with lead poisioning, and a six month old baby those times are few and far between. Just wondering if you could give me some tips on how to help him adapt.

My oldest son, 6, sometimes has really rough nights. We try to make Daddy as involved as possible in his day to day life.

He calls daddy to say goodnight, he reads daddy stories when he has reading homework, we have family conferences on speaker phone. My husband will send goodmorning text messages to all of the kids individually, and is involved in punishment just as much a the good stuff...

It will take some adjustment for him. I know my son will work hard on his behavior with the reward being a trip out with daddy on the truck...

Oh, and on the nights when he wakes up upset cause he misses daddy, we call daddy so they can have a guy talk....

Also my husband makes him "the man" of the house while he is away...makes him feel really important (other two kids don't like it much! lol

Right now i think it is extra hard because he is in so called training, i call it the company he works for getting cheep labor(all of 61 dollars a day, dont forget to subtract all the deductions for his phyical and his refresher course even though he just graduated school we have to pay 1000 for his refresher course.) and his trainer will not allow him to talk on the phone and drive. Most nights he drives till around 3 am my time i think its around 12 his time. SO the children rarley even get to talk to him right now. I hope things will get a little better once he is in his own truck in three months or mabey he would be able to get a better job. But i wont get my hopes up with the economy.
