For the person asking about Covenant watch out.My guy is part of a team too, He runs for 7 weeks then is home for 7 days. If you are running regular drybox you will not get anywhere near the miles they promise you. In fact you will be lucky to get 3000 a week. Now my guy has Doubles, Triples and HASMAT so after a year he moved over to the Refer division and it has been better there, his average is about 4000 miles a week. Also watch out for the idle time, they wont tell you but if you go over 10% idle time they charge you 5 dollars for every percentage point over. they have taken away the safety bonus and they have dropped there pay to drivers by 1 cent per mile so far. As for getting in and out of Florida that has never proved to be a problem for him the just run him empty out of Florida and he picks up a load in GA or AL and goes. He is currently on the prehire list for Conway out of Jacksonville and leaving Covenant soon you might want to try them. I would not recommed Covenant to anyone.

As for me.......for some reason this time around has been very hard on me and I do try to keep busy etc, but it does not seem to be helping.

Thanks for the info; not alot of choices in Florida for trucking companies. When you say your husband was only getting 3000 miles per week; do you mean as a team they were only getting 3000 or he alone was getting 3000. I haven't really looked into Conway but will do that. I'm really hoping when I get finished with school there will be more opportunities for us as far as companies go. I am very glad to hear he isn't having a hard time getting home time; I don't mind not coming home often but we do have our grandbaby in the Florida panhandle.

Strange how sometimes the time passes while they are away and everything seems fine and then other times I want to call him & hear his voice all through the day.

Thanks again

Mine has been driving for close to eight years now, and I still have days when all I want is HIM! And if I can't have him here, I want him on the phone. If I can't get him on the phone, I end up being a clingy, whiny, bawl baby... luckily, it doesn't happen often anymore... (But it is one of those days.)

Thanks Bonnie, thats kinda reassuring!
I guess we get to thinking 'we can cope', and when something triggers a bad day we end up feeling a hundred times worse because we try to kid ourselves we shouldn't feel bad. Try convincing youself you should be grateful he has a job, grateful for good health, all those things we KNOW we should be grateful for, and yet somehow there's a day every now and again when you just lose perspective and want him home. NOW!!!

BTW, I'm heading for a bad day later this week. Its hubby's birthday, and all I can do is call him . . . . .

I've learned to accept these days. There is no reasoning with emotions. They just are. It gets better, it gets less frequent, but it still happens and you just have to learn to roll with the punches. Period. Yes, there will be those days when all you want to do is cry... then by all means cry, and get on with living, and after all, crying IS part of living....

Hi CBTruckers Wife! In response to this part of your post:
"Did I understand that even in training your husband is coming home after 12 days for the 2 days? That would be nice. At Werner they keep them out 6-8 weeks straight for training!"

Yeah, I wish he came home after 12 days in training, but training will (hopefully) just be 4 weeks straight. After that, then 12 days out and 2 days home (repeat). I have prepared myself that he might not always get home like that though. Being in Florida will mess you up on getting home always, I hear. We are new to this game... so we will just have to see. My hubby had a TERRIBLE time getting hired after school (most of the guys in his class did too and some are STILL sitting without jobs)! So, we took PAM Trucking Co, or actually it is a smaller company that they own, Allen Freight Services (out of JAX). So far, it has gone as they said it would. No nightmare stories and he got a real good trainer. We always heard nightmare stories about trainers and were REALLY scared of who (or rather WHAT) he might get. But we have been blessed in that area. Pay isn't great, but the market is so bad that we can understand and just hope and pray that it gets better, very soon!
So far he LOVES trucking (with the exception of being in a cracker jack box with a man he doesn't know AND missing me like crazy). He says that if I could go with him, it would be quite great!
BRIGHT SPOT OF MY WEEK: His trainer is going home for the weekend to TN (keep in mind that we live in FL). Hubby would sit in hotel alone, no car, etc. But, his family is having a reunion just a couple of hours away that weekend (and we couldn't go because of him being gone ofcourse). So, I looked online, found a cheap ticket and some of the family offered up their teenagers bedroom in a cabin to us (poor teens get the pull out couch now)! SO I GET TO SEE HIM, only for 48 hours... but it is like I found a small treasure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait! After that, about 3-4 weeks left of not seeing him.... but atleast we get this!!!!!!!! YAY!

How awesome is that! I am happy for you. Isn't that great timing. Those 48 hours will be sooo special.

We too have been blessed with a good guy for a trainer. Thank God. A friend of my husband had a disaster of a trainer. So when you hear it first hand you get a little nervous.

I was told today that my hubby will be in Florida this weekend and then I quess again in August, for his trainer to go home for his days off. Training is 6-8 weeks with Werner.
I have some friends that are going to go to Florida in August over to Ormond area and the trainer said he could schedule his time at the same time and maybe Werner would put him up over there if he ask. We use to travel with these friends but we were always in our own van. I really don't know whether to get my hopes up that they would take me down with them or not. My husband said he would talk to them about it but I don't know. We are not ones that usually ask for favors. I am praying that they will offer. It sure would be nice to spend a few days with my hubby. Our family has a timeshare down there and could maybe get a place to stay when he has to leave. Funds are tight so I would have to work that out. I quess I will just pray and let the Lord figure it out if I am to go and how.

I'm a Newbie, Too....

I'm so glad I found this website....especially this thread. My boyfriend has been blessed to have lots of work within the state which means I've been spoiled and able to see him nearly every night. But now, the work has slowed down and he's going to be going cross-country. I have so many emotions all tied together. Reading your posts really helps. I know the nights will be the lonliest....I find I miss him a lot in the late afternoon, too, no matter where I am. Something about the sunsets..... What do you all do when the lonliness sets in and you just want to sit and cry??? I know that, in time, I'll find coping skills...but right now this is all so new!!
