Can I join. I still need to lose weight. At the end of April 2009 I found out I have diabetes. I dropped alot of weight at first, but now it seems to be hanging on. I have quit drinking sodas. I can only have 2 cups of coffee in the mornings with splenda, after that the rest of the day is water. I am not allowed tea, or diet drinks. But I am allowed crystal light. I have found some flavors I love and others that I don't like at all. The lemonade is good especially if you add a pack of splenda to it. I eat alot of salads. I no longer eat fried foods. No sweets, except for the occasional slice of pound cake. Very few fruits. I can eat watermelon with no problem. I cannot eat tomatoes, or hot dogs, both of them make my sugar go up. I eat alot of fish, baked and everyone in the house even the 3 year old loves it.

When I found out I had diabetes I weighed 192lbs. Now I am down to 159. But I cannot seem to get rid of the rest of the weight. The doctor wants me down to 135 to 145. I do walk, but I hate to actually exercise, so I clean my house for exercise and chase my 3 year old grandson all day.

If you find something that works besides actuall exercise let me know. I need something else besides what I am doing to get rid of the weight.

Thanks

welcome Sweetpea, anyone can join and going from 192 to 159 has given you a head start over most!
But weight often platues when the body gets used to it's daily routine. There are weight that you can velcro to your wrists and ankles so that even when you do your normal routine you're working out without actually exercising.
That might be a good idea for you, and me, and everyone!

To be honest, I had gone to the emergency room for another reason when they found out I had diabetes or actually that my sugar was 459. The doctor in the emergency room would not give me anything to help make it go down. It took 3 weeks for me to get an appointment to see a doctor that would treat me, so I had to watch everything I ate. So it was no fried foods, no fast foods, weigh everything you eat or measure it by cups. Watch all the carbs you eat. I had to look at the fiber and the sugar for the carbs, if it had more fiber than sugar I can eat it. But for 3 weeks it was mostly salads, without tomatoes. I had to walk for at least 10 minutes after I ate anything. We grilled alot, baked alot. We used either really lean beef for me or turkey burger which isn't too bad if you add the powdered onion soup mix to the meat. We tried the turkey bacon, but I didn't like it at all. We still have small kids in the house that like pizza, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, french fries, and tacos. I have to eat a salad or buy something for me to eat like fish or bake a chicken. I do have my cheats, like my slice of pound cake every now and then, or my cheese nips, pork rinds but only if they are baked. I do cheat by eating fruit, because all the kids here love fruit and it is hard to resist. Even vegetables you have to watch, some of them have to o many carbs or to much natural sugar in them. I no longer eat corn or potatoes. It wasn't hard at first to leave the food alone that I would love, like candy and junk food or even fried food. But now it is getting harder especially when my sugar is down to a good point.

sweetpea, I understand the frustrations of trying to eat healthy, and foods that actually TASTE good, and I so TOTALLY understand not wanting to exercise!!

If you have the time, and space in your home, and ENJOY dancing (I REALLY do, but only when I am alone, and no one is there to see me!!! LOL)
CRANK up the volume on your sound system, to your favorite music, and DANCE your way through your housework!!

It's exercise, without exercising, a GREAT cardio workout, without working out, and loads of fun, to boot!

No special equipment to buy/use, no special clothes, or shoes, and you can just enjoy yourself, while doing what you do every day....dance yourself up the stairs, dusting, mopping, sweeping, etc.
(Just don't try to dance while hand-washing dishes...water slops EVERYWHERE!!!! LOL)

You've done a great job, and welcome to crabbygirls diet thread!!

Judi Kay

Hi everybody!

Actually looked and avoided this thread for past week...anything with the word DIET in it sends me running to the hills! LMAO

Anyway, I have lost 45lbs since last Christmas. I know what your thinkin, that it seems like a long time...but here's the thing. After diet after diet after diet...I am finally at a healthy weight that I hope I can maintain for life.

I used to eat salads everyday and not lose a pound. Workout at home and cry cause I felt so disgusting. Have three children and just kept getting bigger.

Its when I met my husband that all the peices started to fall into place. I was happy! And guess what! I started losing weight! I don't count calories, or avoid my favorite foods.

I know without counting, that if I want to have Pizza, pepsi and cake/ice cream for supper, I can get by with a yogurt for breakfast, and cheese and crackers for lunch.

Like mentioned earlier its about moderation....Office has doghnuts everyday? Bring in your own snack. Pick something you really love that won't jepordize your progress...Maybe even get your co-workers involved so that no one brings in sweets anymore...My brother in law's office is doing a "Biggest Loser" competition...Cost $10 to get in and winner takes all...kinda fun!

Anyway, my biggest life change was cutting out beer. No wasn't a big alcoholic, but when my girlfriends and I got together we could certainly knock them out...and what was worse was that after drinking we craved greasy food! And lots of it! Then next day when hung over we would eat! and eat! LOL well those days are gone, because I don't ever want to look and feel as terrible as I did.

Now...Goal is another 5lbs, but have plateau'd. And bigger goal is to tone up. The sad part about losing weight is that everything stays kinda loose and flabby...so my mid section is my target!

Thanks for the advise on dancing. I was skinny when I was younger and I danced all the time. I also use to swim alot. So I am trying to get hubby to put me in a swimming pool. My house just got empty in last few weeks. There are usually 8 of us here and at times 10. It is me and hubby and our daughter, then our son his wife and 3 kids, and at times our other son and his girlfriend. My son and his wife finally got jobs and the kids finally went back to school, except for the 3 year old. So now dancing might work. I also have to get away from the computer some. I am addicted to it. I am working on genealogy and I find something and can work all day on it. Or I do research for people and search until I find what I am looking for. So I need to start moving more.

Well its cleaning day at our house today (well until football starts LOL) so got the tunes turned up, and workin up a sweat! LMAO

PS had a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast, Five home made perogies for lunch, but was working through supper so I know I was OK to eat half a pint of chocolate icing while watching "the lakehouse" last night!

PSS as to another earlier post talking about PMS...I alway gain 1-3 lbs the week before that time of month, but lose it the following week...so try not to stress!

hung out with my 4 yr old nephew this weekend and poor kid couldn't help spreading the germs to me and I feel like ####. Plus I ate pizza, chips, cookies and ice cream with him - I thought all the walking and catching up with him would make it ok but it was not and I gained almost 2 lbs back in a weekend!
Luckily I'll prob be on soup and tea for the next few days becaue my throat is on fire due to whatever he passed to me.
I so wanna blame this cold for the weight gain but it was probably the doritos LOL
I feel bad, the whole fam saw the bf last night for an hour and we all hugged and kissed him and I worry now we all passed this terrible cold to him and he doesn't come home till Saturday.
Good news is HE COMES HOME SATURDAY AND SUNDAY YAYAYAYAYAYAY
