New Drug May Lift Curse of Menstrual Cramps

Quote:
Candace Jones suffered monthly menstrual pains throughout adolescence, but she didn't fully understand how bad they were until she went into labor with her first child.

"The cramping was so severe you could compare it to the contractions with the baby," said the 26-year-old Springfield, Va., mother.
Since having two children and turning to a new form of birth control -- the IUD -- the cramps have subsided, she said, but the memories of missing running and swimming practices and staying in bed with a heating pad are still vivid.
Jones, like about 15 percent of all menstruating women, suffered from dysmenorrhea -- stabbing or aching lower abdominal or back pain that can cripple women for days each month.
For generations, the only treatment for menstrual pain was over-the-counter medicines like Motrin and Midol. But now, there may be a cure for the root cause of the cramping

Why Even Take? Synthetic Chemical Drugs that causes side effects and eventually may harm your body . In the Long run, doing more harm than good.?

Scientists have created a pill that targets the cause of stomach cramps, rather than just treating its symptoms. The drug, known as VA111913, has been manufactured by the British company [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. and is in [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. in Britain and in the United States.

So far, it has been proven safe and has few side effects and could be on the market in four years if secondary trials are successful.

The Best Thing to Take on the onset of Cramps....... IS,, up to 1,000 mg's of
"CALCIUM" CITRATE (CITRATE, FOR BETTER ABSORBTION) FOR A FEW DAYS. AND YOU CAN ADD SOME MAGNESIUM WITH IT.

AND AFTER ALL THAT'S SAID AND DONE!
WHEN YOU START BREAKING OUT IN SWEATS FROM MENOPAUSE,
THE BEST THING TO TAKE, To Relieve the Sweats,
99 mgs of POTASSIUM. ONE OR TWO A DAY, UNTIL THE SWEATING SUBSIDES.
WORKS LIKE A CHARM ! WITHOUT SIDE EFFECTS.

I doubt that would have worked for her or people like me who have severe cramps caused by uterine fibroids. I tried the mega dose of calcium a few years ago, it did nothing other than possibly strengthen my bones.

Unless you have suffered from the above mentioned PAIN there is no way to explain it. All the natural remedies dont seem to do a thing, however trying them isnt a bad idea;sometimes a simple fix will help.

In our family this problem affects several women and as they get older the pain seems to get worse. Its NOT in their imagination as some docs like to play it off. I myself have found IF you deal with a WOMAN doctor she is more likely to HELP with these issues as she at least has a point of connection. There is a treatment one of my close family members is going to have next week where the uterus is "blasted" and her periods are supposed to stop; I dont know all the details yet but I am checking into them. Its less dangerous than a hysterectomy for sure....

Sounds like she is having [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. . I hear it's very successful as long as you are done having babies.

Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is a minimally invasive treatment for fibroid tumors of the uterus. The procedure is also sometimes referred to as Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE), but this term is less specific and, as will be discussed below, UAE is used for conditions other than fibroids. Fibroid tumors, also known as myomas, are benign tumors that arise from the muscular wall of the uterus. It is extremely rare for them to turn cancerous. More commonly, they cause heavy menstrual bleeding, pain in the pelvic region, and pressure on the bladder or bowel.

Quote:
In a UFE procedure, physicians use an x-ray camera called a fluoroscope to guide the delivery of small particles to the uterus and fibroids. The small particles are injected through a thin, flexible tube called a catheter. These block the arteries that provide blood flow, causing the fibroids to shrink. Nearly 90 percent of women with fibroids experience relief of their symptoms. Because the effect of uterine fibroid embolization on fertility is not fully understood, UFE is typically offered to women who no longer wish to become pregnant or who want or need to avoid having a hysterectomy, which is the operation to remove the uterus.

I have had some periods that are VERY painful, and others that are nothing. When I say VERY painful, I mean as in, giving birth to my son was more tolerable! Plus, when I have these kinds of cycles, I get SICK. Throwing up, massive headache, horrible cramping, and at leaast part of the time running a fever. I just want to DIE.

Strangely enough, the doc who helped me to control it is a YOUNG MALE! Believe me, it felt really weird trying to descibe these problems to someone 15 years younger of the opposite gender... but this guy got it! He immediately recommended that for the 4-5 days before my cycles begin I take the daily recommended dose of Estroven... but don't take it the rest of the month... Most of the time, it works. I've only had one "killer" cycle since I started doing this, about a year ago....
