My female shephard is not insurable. She stopped someone from entering the yard when my wife was home alone.

She scratched him with her teeth when he reached over the gate to open it.

The hospital put a band aid on the wound and gave a tetanus shot.

He sued, we paid quite well. Alot more than the 1500 dollar hospital bill.

There are no bad dogs...just bad owners.

Yes pitbulls can be dangerous, but they are also VERY MUCH controllable by a good owner. Pitbulls are just as eager to please their owner as any Cocker Spaniel out there.

To answer your question...the pitbull owners are right. The news is blaming the dogs when it should be blaming the owners. There are several breeds of dogs that are FAR more vicious than pitbulls...but they too can be kept under control.

I have a female German Shephard at home that will shred a stranger without a word of warning...I live out in the sticks, my family is there when I'm on the road...I trained Gypsy myself. With the family she is just a puppy, a properly trained pitbull will be the same way.

Walmart was wrong, the ada is very clear on this and Walmart accepted their employees made a mistake.

There are over 1,000,000 pitbulls in the us. Look at that number. Every year 20 people are killed was the stat? If a pitbull was involved everytime that's what... .00002% chance of being killed by a pitbull?

The fact is looking at bite stats is misleading. German shepherd have a high bite stat yet they do not differenciate from police dog bites, home protection bites, or purely unprovoked bites.

Pitbulls are not more agressive. You are more likely to be bitten by a weenie dog then a pit bull. The issue is tenacity and strength. A pitbull is a terrier, like a jack russell. Terriers are breed to be stubborn and relentless. Pitbulls do not stop with a bite, when they decide to attack they go for the kill, unlike most dogs whom will bite until the threat backs off. And for the record the news people report every bite as a pitbull attack I've seen several news reports of a pitbull attack where they show a shot of the dog being led away and its a rotti, lab, chow, so forth.

And this thread is about service animals not pets, there is a big difference and service animals have a legal right to be with the diasabled person who needs them. And I honestly utterly doubt your story because the police have no juristiction in a private store unless a crime is being committed and unless its not illegal to go to the store with a pet then the stores policies are the only prohibiting factor for a pet owner in bringing a pet and maybe health code issues. Store policies are however not the law and cannot be enforced by the police, though the store can ask you to leave and you can be arrested for trespassing if you do not comply.

Telling you that you can't bring a service animal into a public business IS, however, a violation of the law. Federal law, no less. That is something the police CAN enforce.

As for pitbulls, they may be more likely to have an aggressive disposition than, say, a St. Bernard. That, however, means nothing. What matters is how that dog is raised and trained. Reality is, any animal big enough to physically harm a human could conceivably do so, and yet I don't see anyone banning Great Danes. Or horses. Seems to me the pitbull tends to get singled out for no good reason.

I hang out with my uncle alot, and alot of his work is done on tow yards and wrecking yards. On any given day, we are liable to run onto any number of dogs, and alot of those are pit bulls. To be blunt, I don't trust ANY dog until I get to know them. But the worst dog I ever ran across for aggression was a Black Lab! Most of the pitbulls, I have eventually made friends withbut this lab, there is no being friendly with!

And one of those tow yard owners is one of the best pit bull breeders I have ever met, and will NOT tolerate any of his dogs being aggressive towards a human!

Same here, I never trust any dog till I get to know them. I had a friend of mine approach one that appeared to be happily sitting in his buddy's front yard but when he reached to pet it, the dog lashed out and nearly bit him. So yeah no one should ever assume that all dogs are just gonna be friendly.
