First I read the statements by the person asked to leave Wal-Mart, and just like in the media networks of TV, the headline is misleading...or at least it was to me....I got the impression that the woman and her dog were made to leave the store (conclusions are not a good thing) after reading the webpage, it was QUITE clear that they were simply asked to leave, not made to.

In this day and age when pitbulls are not considered to be a "safe" breed I can understand why the store employees asked her to finish up her shopping and get the dog out of the store. This breed has a reputation of behaviors that are not acceptable....and when they decide to "go off" even their owners cant control them. I guess if you make a pitbull a service dog you should expect people to be taken aback and fearful.....All the lovers of pitbulls can keep on preaching how wonderful they are, and the news will keep reporting the maulings, deaths etc caused by these dogs......wonder who is right???

This is Very interesting to say the least!

I do believe that Cloe the dog that they are talking about may be a one of a kind Pitbull which is good for her, since she will have a great life.

Although, I can understand Walmart's position on this as well.

Anytime someone "asks" you to leave their property, consider it as they are "making" you leave. If you refuse, you are then guilty of trespass and could be arrested. If they "asked" her to leave, they MADE her leave.
So, I don't find her claims that Walmart "made her leave" misleading at all.

The breed that Pit Bulls originate from (Bull Terrier/Staffordshire Terrier) were originally called the "Nanny Dog" in England, because of their gentile nature. Brits trusted them even around their small children, because of this "nature" as well as the dog's faithfulness and protectiveness toward the children. The (Bull Terrier/Staffordshire Terrier) only got a bad reputation as their breed became popular and more irresponsible people raised them. They are no more aggressive than any other dog. They were originally bred to be ANIMAL aggressive, particularly in hunting boars and bears in England. Any sign of "HUMAN" aggression meant the dog was immediately "put down" and human aggression was effectively bred out of the breed.

"Bite Statistics" for any breed of dog are in direct correlation to the popularity of that breed. More popular dogs have higher bite statistics. For example; when the Collie was the "IN-DOG", collie's had the highest bite statistics and were considered "dangerous" dogs. Same with shepherds and poodles. The MAIN reason pit bull maulings are so widely reported is because their bites do more "damage" than do the bites from other dogs, mostly because of the strength of the dog's jaws.

Pit Bulls aren't bred "to be mean/aggressive", they are taught that behavior and awarded for it. We (at home) have 3 pit bull mixes and are the gentlest dogs I know. We have enforced and awarded that gentile nature and punished their aggressive outbursts. We know many other people with pit bull dogs, and they are gentile as well.

As always: The intelligence of a dog runs DOWN a 6ft leash.

Everything I have seen (by direct observation and by research) of the breed leads me to believe that Cloe is the RULE and not the EXCEPTION.
MOST of the time, other dogs are MISIDENTIFIED as "Pit Bulls" (APBTs, AMSTAFFs and STAFFYs) The Pit Bull breed(s) gets the bad reputation undeservedly for bites that should be attributed to other breeds.

I think while any dog can be safely trained, I believe the bad rap that pit-bulls have is due to their tendency to MAUL, not just bite...

Pitbulls, Mastiffs, and Rots, have SUPER powerful jaws, and tend to latch on and tear when they bite, where as a black lab tends to bite and run...

I know my 180lb mastiff I cannot remove something from his jaws if he does not want me to. Where as with a lab or shepard you could easily overpower the jaws.

Also mastiffs and pitbulls are VERY muscular, and a comparable sized lab or Shepard will weigh 1/2 to 2/3 the weight for the same physical sized dog.

I dont want to seem harsh on the matter but you wouldn't expect to see a trucker going four wheeeling... So i have to agree with walmart. I wouldnt want my granddaughter any place a pit bull would be. Pitbulls were banned from a local town because a pitbull had ripped the face off a 6yrs old whom was raised in a good home. Who has ever heard of a pitbull as a " service dog "

ANY animal that has teeth can bite a human, there are however those that are more apt to do so, for whatever reason.....there are just some things that can NOT be removed from an animal....having a pitbull is no different than having a pet tiger, lion, alligator eventually someone is gonna get hurt. Just ask the lady who lives six miles from me how she felt when she was in HER yard, hanging up laundry (with her baby beside her) when 2 pits came from the neighbors yard and attacked her. IT isnt about what breed has the highest bite numbers for a particular year, its about what a breeds general behavior, disposition etc is. Most of the time when a child is bitten it is because they have been left unsupervised with an animal, BUT pit attacks are often in the victims own yard/home and are unprovoked. There is no win to the debate on this issue, as for me and mine, we will not own one, will not allow one on our property and will never trust one, and will continue to work to make those that do be responsible. You have to get a special permit to carry a concealed weapon, you should also have to get a special permit to own this type of dog, to PROVE you know what your doing and not just some macho dork out trying to be "a big man" with your dog.

In this case the stats dont lie. Pit bulls are 3 percent of the dog population and account for 50 percent of attacks.
Plain and simple.
