Catprint Red Another Re-called DOG FOOD

Recalled dog food sold in local Wal-Mart
6/7/07

The downtown Suffolk and Franklin Wal-Mart stores have pulled select bags of Ol' Roy Complete Nutrition dog food off the shelves because of concerns about possible salmonella contamination.

The Tennessee-based Doane Pet Care Co., which manufactured the dog food at its northern Virginia plant, issued the voluntary recall after the Food and Drug Administration detected the bacteria's presence, according to the company's Web page. The company said no illnesses have been reported, that the recall is a precautionary action.

This action is not related to a recent rash of pet food recalls because of tainted Chinese vegetable proteins, the Web site noted.

The pet food, which was sold exclusively by Wal-Mart, came in a pair - one 50-pound bag and a bonus 5-pound bag. The recalled bags of food bear the code, "04 0735 1," and a ``best by'' date of April 13, 2008, the Web site noted.
