Catprint Red What companies allow pets?

I'm new to trucking (after driving taxis for five years), getting ready to train with Schneider and give 'em the year to get the experience, but later on down the line I want to take my two cats along on the road. Schneider says no, so which companies allow pets?

Many trucking companies that advertise in those "trucking" magazines found in truckstops, USUALLY include information such as: rider and "pet" policy in their advertisment. IF NOT, all it takes is a simple phone call to the recruiting office of a prospective trucking company.

While many companies DO allow dogs, there appears to be a bias against drivers having #####(cats) in their trucks.

US Xpress allows pets but only 1, but they ain't going to ever figure out you have 2 if you don't go telling everyone in the world you have two, and i have seen plenty of drivers with a cat and dog or 2 dogs, havent seen anyone with 2 cats, and i have a cat that rides on my truck...

its pricy you pay 100 up front then they deduct $50 per pay check until you reach your $500 deposit.. and shady as well you have to have your truck checked out each time you change trucks for what ever reason, and if they say your truck needs to be detailed (because they detail all their trucks any way) YOU pay for the detail, also if anything breaks and they find pet hair in it or could be the problem you pay for the Part! including AC filters and anyting dealing with the AC on the truck..

I just put my cat on the truck because there clean and never told anyone and never ran into a problem the entire year she was on the truck now she stays home with my wife...

Arrow Trucking out of Tulsa, Oklahoma allows pets. They are a flatbed company. We have two dogs with us, a Border Collie, Angel, and a Siberian Husky, Harley...they are also pricy, $500 Pet Deposit, they take it out of your check at $50 dollars a week too, and we have also seen Arrow drivers with cats, they only allow one pet, but you don't have to tell them that you have two. And the weight limit on pets is 50 pounds. The shop people know that we have two pets, but they haven't told anyone, so we are fine. But if you don't want to pull flatbed, the other person who said that you can look in trucking books is right, most of the adds list wethier or not they are pet friendly...Good luck

Road Sheltie

Howdy! Ya, I'm having to find someone to work for that both offers training and will allow pets once you are solo, so remember that. I have a Sheltie and she's ready to go! There are more than I thought there would be, have to admit, but also have to weed out a few that I see here get a lot of complaints for other reasons, places like Swift. I was looking at CRST, but saw the complaints about them and they never answered two different email I sent on this very subject. Understand I'm not making a complaint about anyone.

The two I'm considering are either Lisa (owned by FFE) and Midwest Coast Transport. Been having trouble finding out a lot about either of them specifically, but the little there is seems positive. I'm thinking the large deposit is going to be universal, and I can't blame them for that. So I'm looking at them, but of course they aren't the only ones. I sure would like to hear stories from pet (especially dog) owners who have been employees for any line.

Give me a squeeky, a basket, and a star to guide her by . . .

The Sheltie

Talking Sorry

Hello,
Sorry, Hubby hasn't worked for any of them....I would divorce him if he worked for Swift...Sorry, Don't get me started on them....LOL...I had a friend that was a trainer for FFE, and he liked it a lot. We pull only flatbed, and that's all I know, I would help you out more if I could, of course. Arrow trains drivers, but I'm sure you not interested in flatbeddin'....

Let me know how it goes with you though....

Hartt Transportation

Thanks for the info on Hartt. Doesn't look like they train drivers though, or do they? I'll save that for later though, can't beat working for people who like pets. Do they allow mooses or alligators though?

July update

Thanks for all your help so far. Nice to know that there are quite a few trucking companies that will allow pets. I don't mind paying a deposit for the privilege, cuz my kids are worth it. They are both declawed on the front tires (I had it done by my vet when they were wee kitties, so they've never missed 'em. And, it saves shredding chairs, curtains and, yes, car and truck seats). I should be able to start training with Schneider around September, so I'll be looking over the next year for a good, pet-friendly company. Again, thanks for all your help!

P.S.: Yep. I heard a lot of negatory on Swift. That's why I chose Schneider for my initial training. That, and the fact that AARP gives 'em a thumbs up.

Lisa Motor

Just got a call back from Lisa Motor. They allow pets at a .01 cents per mile charge. Since they claim the average driver gets 3000 miles per week, that gets expensive quick! While you only pay for miles pet is in truck, since Emily is going to be riding with me all the time I'd rather pay the $500.
