Saying goodbye to a great friend...

I know many of you have read my posts referring to my mother's pit bull boxer mix.. He has been a very loyal, very loving family member. The children have all loved him, playing with him like he was a favorite toy. He has watched over my children, and two of my brothers' children with all the love and devotion of Nanny in Peter Pan...

He had what we all believe was a stroke this last weekend. He no longer has use of his hind legs, and whines every time he picks up his head to check on the 3 year old he is still so devoted to.

Tomorrow this family loses one of it's dearest friends. Mom is ging to have to have Chomps put to sleep... he is in pain, and it is simply too heartbreaking to allow this continue...

He's lived a happy life, and he will be SO MISSED...

Bonnie

Yes indeed this is a very sad day!
This is the part of life I just absolutely hate and can hardly get thru it myself.

Bless his heart...may he rest in peace and have NO more suffering.

Oh, Bonnie, I'm so sorry. Hold on to the great memories. I hope that the kids aren't too traumatized by this. RIP Chomps.

I've gone through this twice with greyhounds.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can hardly stand thinking about it after having to put one of mine down a few years ago. Prayers sent your way.

Thank you folks!

One of Mom and Dad's friends is taking care of things... he took Chomps down to the clinic for them. When Ron (the friend) moved to this tiny little town, he had a retriever that was getting pretty close to antique, and shortly after had to have him put to sleep. He is taking Chomps out to bury then side by side, next to the creek, where each of them has played in their younger days.

I have one image of that silly dog stuck in my head today. One of him running down the river bed, in shallow water on a hot summer day with all of the kids. If I close my eyes I can see Cindy holding his leash and running, and splashing in the water with Jolene and William, all them squealing and laughing and Chomps barking at them....
