Does my woofy wanna be a trucker?

At nine months, Dewey the black-mouth cur/pitt is by far the best companion dog ive had yet. I grew up with guard trained dobermans and have always had one myself. Naturally, routine training is a hobby of mine, but I wanna keep Dewey the friendly assertive dog he is. I just dont know if it's fair to cramp a 60lbs dog in a little truck with only a walk one or two times a day. Where would I put a crate? Ive seen rotts in trucks before, I just dont know if it's fair to them. Any suggestions on anything?

Oh yeah almost for got the pic!

My pup Rufus rides with me. He has been in the truck since he was a puppy. At first part time, and then when my husband passed away full time.

He gets a long walk and play time in the morning, then every 3 hours the same, until we stop. Sometimes it happens, like last week that due to driving in really bad weather, he only got to hop out and pee, but that was the exception, not the rule.

I am all for having a traveling companion, but you have to be willing to make their life as good as you can. For me, that often means sacrificing rest and sleep to give him lots of exercise.

I would think that the way you imagine it, just one or two times a day is cruel. Dogs that size need more exercise.

Why the need to crate him? It's not like there is all that much space in the truck to begin with, let him have a little leg room.

Just my 2 cents.

Very handsome hound you have there. The thing with the crate is for one he is already crate trained and has grown very fond of it. Two, I need a safe place for him to go should I get flagged for inspection or some other situation where it's not safe for him to have free roam of the truck.

The crate is a great idea. Lots of people are anti-crate but it's always a safe place for a dog if you need others on the truck or something.

If you want to sacrifice time like the above poster mentioned, it can be done but I'd never do it if you only want to let him out twice a day. We travelled with a min pin and she was fine but she doesn't need a lot of exercise or want it.
