Several Birds Test Positive Several Birds Test Positive for Rare Bacterial Infection; Hundreds Ordered off Pet Store Shelves 12/29/07 Quote: Hundreds of exotic birds were ordered off pet store shelves for 45 days and into quarantine after several tested positive for a rare bacterial infection that can be transferred to humans, MyFoxAtlanta.com reported. Psittacosis can cause pneumonia in both the birds and humans and if untreated it can lead to death, the station reported.
