Red face VET Bills can be high

It must be the cost of everything going up, as to why my VET would get pretty expensive.
I remember when she came to town and how low her prices were compared to now.

Iam not complaining, it just threw me a loop today the COST of my dog having to have 3 teeth pulled, stitches, anesthesia, blood test, pain shot, antibiotics, etc.........
It reminded me of when a human goes to the hospital, they charge you for using a tissue.

Iam happy that our VET is close to home and that she is AWESOME at what she does, but for those needing VET care for their pets....it's got to be tough on some families out there.

You think she's high?

1993, Buddy, our gray tiger tabby. He went to the U of I had surgery.
Recommended radiation treatment after second surgery 3 months later. Level suggested was above their ability. Buddy got to go to Purdue.

6 weeks later, cured of Thyroid Carcinoma. All of the tax return preparation income for that year went to his medical cost.

I hear you. Its terrible any more. And the ones around here, have to have the $$$ up front, before they will do any procedure on your pet anymore. I'm beginning to think that pet insurance isn't such a bad idea. I laughed when I first found out about it, but man, I suppose it would be cheaper than paying all that at once.

How is your furbaby?

Buddy lived for over 5 years after that. Came home and he was lying on the floor barely breathing. He had a stroke and was paralysed. He was 17 years old. Took him to the vet to put to sleep. We never let our pets suffer.

i don't want to get into an argument, but most vet expenses are labor. there are still plenty of vets that will do very good work for a reasonable fee. cost of knowledge i know has increased, but there are plenty of people doctors that work with 20-30 dollar office visits, and modest surroundings. imho

We have guinea pigs... and it's hard getting people to understand why we'd pay $100.00 or so for a vet visit and medication. But they are our pets... a part of our family... and I don't care how "easily replaced" they are, they are not disposable in my book. (Plus, they're the only things that still whistle at me. )

Trouble is, the common guinea pig -- believe it or not -- is considered an "exotic" by vets. Cracks me up. Over the years of taking in sick and injured guinea pigs, we've become more knowledgeable about their illnesses than most vets in the area. So we do most of our own diagnosing and go to the vet for medication and injections.

We love our little wheekers!

That's one reason my dogs are raw fed and are not vaccinated after two years of age and never will be again unless I'm travelling to a rabies area or they need heartworm for that area. There's no rabies or heartworm here.

I spent over $9,000 on Penny - she had Legg Calve Perthes disease. She's 100% fine now, may have some arthritis in that leg as she gets older. I don't regret it at all - she was cured 100% and my vet gave me a break on the rehab she gave her twice a week then once a week until she had full use of her leg back.

My vet is absolutely awesome but she no longer gives deals or discounts and has raised her prices a LOT in the last five years. I will pay her prices because I know her very well and she knows her stuff, especially surgery and orthotics, but thankfully my pets rarely go to the vet's any more.

Their teeth sparkle, their health is 100% and they are never ill any more. Best thing I ever did was to get my dogs off that cereal they try to call dog food.

Makes sense to me. I'm like that, too. I call the vet, tell them what's wrong and get a prescription usually without an office visit because they know me well and know I know what I'm talking about.

Guinea pigs are so cool! I love the squeaking!!!!! but hate the smell rodents of all types make so we don't have any rodents of any type any more.

HEY I totally understand!
If it would make ya feel better, I could do some whistling at ya!

I have to tell you this story DUCKS!

WE had a Cockatiel that loved to whistle and talk.

He was sitting on his perch out on the front porch in the summer what a man jogger came by and he did the WOLF whistle at him.

Well I happened to be sitting near the bird when he did that, and the man thought that I had done that......I don't think he ever believed me, when I told him it was the bird.
