No, all we can do is try to educate those that have stupid ways of thinking. I find that it is impossible for some to see past the end of their noses. It is crazy that common sense is not part of some peoples life and it is only in them to think of themselves and not the rest of the world or even others that surround then. Even if it is their own neighbor or a friend or a family member. We know them better as liberals here on the other side. The side of reason and of common sense.

All of the female cats here are spayed. Unfortunately, I cannot get one of the Toms neutered, as no vet in this area will touch it. He's 14. (I've had him around longer than I have had my son! LOL!) He wandered around the neighborhood we lived in for YEARS and everyone thought he belonged to someone else. When we moved 3 years ago is when I found out he belonged to no-one. (You'd have NEVER guessed it to look at all 22 lbs of him!) So I brought him with me. But they wouldn't neuter him then because of his age, and they won't do it now either. The other male is getting neutered next week! I cannot stand his behaviour anymore!! He's started spraying, and making that awful noise, and "Tom-ing around".

I have 3 dogs. One is an ancient female we had fixed a long, long time ago.

I would LOVE to have Shyanne fixed. But she has a rash left over from when we didn't know she was allergic to corn... so we're waiting for that to heal. Then she will get spayed. I don't want to want to risk her passing on her allergies, and her skin issues to puppies.

Bobbin is not fixed. She is my hubby's truck buddy, when he works for a company that allows him to take her. I want one litter of pups from her. Or more accurately, I have a dozen others wanting one of her pups! LOL! I have people begging for pups, and he has had drivers ask for pups... She's a minature Aussie rat terrier mix... she perfect for the truck. When it is rolling, she is perfectly content to lay in the passenger seat. And she's not so big as to block your view.. and the rat terrier in her has an energy level that is crazy once she gets out of the truck!! LOL!

I wish the dummies out there would wake up. It's tough when someone who is responsible may have to "fix" thier animals, that they don't want to fix yet. The only reason I haven't bred Bobbin is because she keeps coming into heat in the early parts of Oct, and April. Well, if I breed her in Oct.. pups in Dec... this house doesn't stay warm enough. I'd have frozen puppies. and in April with June pups? Baked puppies... Sorry, but I am picky about whether or not I can take care of them.

Ok, ok. You have forced me to voice my views on this matter, and possibly get this thread locked. You say in California alone, ther are millions of pets murdered (yes, murdered), and you say this is a disease. There is an "epidemic" of pet populations in the US alone, and those of us who wish not to mutilate our pets, and are responsible enough to keep them away from another animal during the time when they are in heat (my girl dogs), are stupid for not doing it. And yet the epidemic of human overpopulation is just fine and dandy. We keep taking more and more land away from animals, and slaughter millions of animals because they are "in our way". 6 billion humans destroying this planet, slaughtering every "dumb animal" on the planet..... This is just fine.
Animals who attack and harm a human are immediately murdered. But a human who harms another gets a slap on the wrist, and will harm more humans again. If a creature on this planet needs to be sexually mutilated, it should be humans.
Just because I refuse to mutilate my female dogs does not make me an irresponsible owner. I keep a watch on my dogs, and keep them inside my house when they are in heat. I take responsibility in owning dogs and watch them, not take the easy way out, mutilate them, and just forget about them. My dogs have never attacked anyone or anything. I am not stupid enough to leave my dogs unattended and have them become pregnant.

So, I ask that you refrain from calling me stupid or dumb. Because believe me, I am far from that. I hate when people think they are smarter than me, and try to force their views on me. Like I said in my last post in this topic, You will not change my views on this, just as I will not be able to chose your views. I will not mutilate my animals. If I can't keep my dogs from getting pregnant, than I shouldn't have them. Because THAT shows a lack of responsibility.

You should do some research. Female dogs who are not spayed tend to live much shorter lives because of it. Both male and female dogs tend to go through agony during their periods of intense sexual excitement, especially the males when a female in heat is nearby.

We are humans and can rationalize and control things. Dogs cannot. It is much kinder to spay and neuter your dogs unless they are being bred than it is to leave them intact just because you think it's more manly or correct.

Like I said, to some clinical research (it's available online, you just have to be selective where you look) and you'll realize you're doing them a FAVOR to spay or neuter your pets because they will have stress-free lives, have less chance of becoming ill from cancer and they will often live longer.

I know all breeders I've ever heard of or talked to (and I've belonged to many dog boards over the years) all spay or neuter their dogs when they are past prime breeding age, especially the females, who they usually spay by five to seven years of age, because it is just kinder to them and they are more likely to stay healthier if they are spayed.

The main reason they are enacting any laws about this is for IRRESPONSIBLE owners who don't contain their unfixed animals, who throw puppies in bags in the rivers, who fight unfixed dogs, etc., etc., etc. People who are responsible and know what they are doing can easily be exempted from this law with a letter from their veterinarian.

By the way, it's NOT mutilation. MANY women have full hysterectomies. They are not "mutilated". Yes, they take supplements then to help keep their hormones regulated but dogs do not require sex to feel "normal" like humans do

I do not feel you are stupid at all, just a bit uneducated and, even so, you are perfectly entitled to keep your pets intact as long as you are a completely responsible owner, which it sounds like you are. I personally just believe it's kinder to spay or neuter dogs for their own sake, not to "take the easy way out".

Catprint Red L.A. pets must be spayed or neutered

L.A. pets must be spayed or neutered

Quote:
LOS ANGELES - Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Tuesday signed one of the nation’s toughest laws on pet sterilization, requiring most dogs and cats to be spayed or neutered by the time they are 4 months old.
The ordinance is aimed at reducing and eventually eliminating the thousands of euthanizations conducted in Los Angeles’ animal shelters every year.

“We will, sooner rather than later, become a no-kill city and this is the greatest step in that direction,” Councilman Tony Cardenas said as he held a kitten at a City Hall news conference.More............

OK...you have me totally interested now! I have got to see a pic of her, because my husband's dog has the merling of an Aussie, the energy and size of a rat terrier, and people BEGGED us too to breed him. Of course I said no and got him fixed. LOL!!! You can KIND of see him in my avatar pic...being 'mauled' by our pet rats. He's got VERY cool markings, I've never seen a dog quite like him. He even has the eye defects that alot of Aussie shepherds have.

I found this pic of him when he was a little pup...it's poor quality because it is a still off of a webcam, but you can see his markings a LITTLE bit better.
