Caught on tape: man beats dogs

Caught on tape: man beats dogs

WHITE CLOUD, Mich.

Quote:
A neighbor intentionally videotaped a man beating his dogs in what Newaygo County authorities say is the worst case of animal abuse they have ever seen.
William Reed, 46, from White Cloud, allegedly routinely beat three dogs for three years.
"Beating 'em with a chain, whipping them with a chain, strangling them, choking them for five minutes, just straight choking the dog. You could hear him choke from 30 feet away," said neighbor Steve Fischer.
Fischer said he would plea to Reed to stop the abuse.
"What's your problem man?" Fischer asked Reed. "And what does he do? He turns around and beats them harder. 'They're my dogs, I can do what I want.'"
So Fischer purchased $400 worth of video equipment and recorded the abuse.
"Get it on tape. Undisputable proof. You know, the only other way to get him in trouble is to have a cop witness it. He's stupid, but I don't think he's stupid enough to do that in front of a cop, so I videotaped it," said Fischer.
Fischer turned over the evidence Wednesday to Newaygo Animal Control, and Reed was arrested within hours. He was charged with two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty, and could face 93 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The dogs - a yellow Labrador, a chow-Labrador mix, and a beagle-pit bull mix - are housed at the Newaygo Animal Control and are said to be in physically good shape but emotionally damaged.
The sheriff commended Fischer for his actions.
The sheriff told 24 Hour News 8 the county prosecutor will review the case on Monday and take a look at the video firsthand. There is the possibility that more charges could be filed.

Michigan is definitely turning into a depressing place.

This is what pisses me off. I'm in favor of new laws that would make animal abuse (especially as drastic as this case) a felony and carry much harsher penalties than this. Maybe I'm all wet, but to me a dog is much more than a domesticated animal. Hell, if that were three children he was beating, the guy might be looking at 15-20 years in prison.

USA He gives Michigan a Bad name (other than the democrats)

You know coming from the greater Grand Rapids area i find this totally disturbing and upsetting that someone could even think about doing that. Myu wife and i love to watch animal cops on the TV and we just sit there and shake our head and wonder what is wrong with people like that. they have to have something wrong in their head. i just dont understand how or why someone would do something like that. I personnelly think he needs to have the same treatment and see how he likes it.

They recently upgraded extreme abuse to a Felony in Michigan and I suspect after the Prosecutor reviews the tape, there may be felony charges filed, particularly considering the attention recent abuse cases have got from the media and the responses from "average joes".

Well, I'm glad MI has got it together. Have you heard any updates on this case?
