Some Animals Found With Fur Matted By Feces, Urine

STERLING, Conn. -- State agriculture officials seized 43 dogs and one cat from a breeder in Sterling on Friday. Officials said the animals had fur matted by feces and urine, and two appeared to have minor injuries. Authorities took the animals from the home of Elaine Gellerman and Brenda Witt. The investigation started last month with a citizen complaint about unsanitary conditions at the kennel, which is licensed by the town of Sterling. The dogs were of various breeds and mixed breeds, including shih tzus , poodles and Chihuahuas. Now, they're being cared for at area pounds and examined by veterinarians. "It appears that these animals were housed in very poor conditions, which we determined were detrimental to their health," Agriculture Commissioner F. Philip Prelli said in a statement. The investigation is continuing and the Department of Agriculture may pursue criminal cruelty to animal charges

Catprint Red How do we stop it

We can stop it by not buying "purebreed" pets from pet stores, if you have to have a purebreed, please buy from a breeder, not a pet store or a puppy mill
