Coffee drinking fish stealing BRAT!

I have to tell you about this pup! She belongs to my daughter's sweetheart, and I have fallen head over heels in love with her! We started off saying she was a pitbull.. because that is what everyone said her mama was... She's not. The more she grows, the more she looks like a lab. She has the webbed toes of a lab. And she LOVES water! Do not get between her and the river unless you want to get wet too!

But she has some interesting habits... she loves fish... specifically, SALMON! She is so bad about salmon that we will not say that word around the house unless we are cooking it! She will do anything to get salmon.

She has been trained to be in the house. She knows all the rules, and for a 4 month old pup, she does pretty darn good. She will not go potty inside, she leaves stuff alone that is on the tables, and she will not take food from your hand.

But last night was just too much for the poor baby. We cooked fish. And left several pieces on the table so others could serve themselves. Well, after everyone had eaten, she waited about half an hour, and went over and sat beside the table.... and whined. And then waited.. and waited... she didn't make another sound.. well, stupid me, I forgot the fish was even there. Then we hear this scraping noise...

That silly pup had pulled the plate of fish to the edge of the table, off onto the back of chair, and then to the seat of a chair, and was eating the fish!!! And being very polite about it I might add! No wolfing it down, and no running once she had been caught at it! Just very calmly enjoying her fish! And she did not break the plate!?!

THis morning, I left sausage on the table while I was cooking eggs... she came over, whined and then waited for her breakfast. No stealing sausage and eggs. Just fish. She won't even sniff at the table unless it is fish.

Just now, she came up beside where I am sitting in the front room floor and stole my coffee!!

Despite her flaws though, I just love this crazy dog!

Oh, this little girl eats GOOD!! Uncle Bob has actually gotten to where he buys extra fish, just so she can not only have her share when we eat it, but she can have fish later!! He didn't even object when she "stole" her fish off the table!

If she stayed exactly as she was, she would be one of the best... ut she is so eager to learn, so protective, and so loving, that she will become EXCELLANT!

I seem to remember someone tell me many years ago that dogs should not eat raw ocean fish because of a natural chemical in the fish (that doesn't hurt us) can make the dog seriously ill, even kill it. But I don't recall if the warning was for fresh fish or fish that has "aged". I have looked on Google and haven't found any answer in enough depth to warrant posting it here.

She won't eat it raw.. It must be PROPERLY cooked for her to want it.

She loves to swim... I am not looking forward to the day that she finally associates "fish in the river" with "fish on the plate".....

I brought my Lab with me on a trip figuring she'd be good company and keep the riffraff out of the truck. I was heating up some Bar-B-Que chicken in the Crockpot behind my seat. She either sits as a "co-driver" or she hangs out in the bunk which she did while the chicken was being reheated. Anyway I pulled over for the night and the chicken was smelling pretty good at this point. I parked and went back behind my seat and there she was licking her chops. I had four pieces of chicken and she had two and left me two
The funny thing was, she took the lid off without getting burned and set it next to the Crockpot without making a mess
