Saving Michael Vick's dogs

Saving Michael Vick's dogs

Quote:
When football superstar Michael Vick pleaded guilty last year to conspiring to run a dogfighting operation, we knew he had kept about 50 pit bulls on his 15-acre property in rural Surry County, Va., on a road named Moonlight. We knew the dogs were chained to car axles near wooden hovels for shelter. And we knew the dogs that didn't fight were beaten, shot, hanged, electrocuted or drowned.

Thats the way it should be, each be evaluated individually. When I have watched annimal cops , thats what they have done, they test for aggresion wth food, children , and other things, to see if they are placable. I have seen many that are , and have a happy ending, I hope that most if not all of them do to!! I think they should do to him what was done to those dogs, one thing at a time, nice and slow!!!!!!!

Ya and things will blow over on the seashores of old Mexico

I don't have much faith in the methods they use to evaluate dogs for aggression. For instance; locally they use the same "system" for evaluation, which seems to be the standard. One particular dog was minutes from being euthanized, because the evaluator declared the dog "food aggressive". The dog watched every move the evaluator made when she placed a dish of food in front of it. The dog wasn't food aggressive, the dog had been trained to only eat when given the "command" by his previous owner.
That is actually a GOOD trait taught to a dog, it helps prevent someone from getting accidentally bit while the dog is eating.

Yes it is definately a good trait, when I dopted my dog, I had a littel trouble with her at first, and they told me to have her sit before going out and eating, then tell her when it is ok.

No, not always, I have seen them on animal planet, go to homes and be fine, but most of the time, they have to be the only dog in the house.

The belief that fighting dogs would be too aggressive for adoption is a myth. Through four hundred years of selective breeding, the Staffordshire Terrier (and American Staffordshire) have been bread specificially for their gentleness toward humans. No "fighter/breeder" wants to get bit while handling his own dog, so any dog that shows even the slightest aggression toward humans is "culled", no matter the age of the dog.
