Unhappy Cops Shoot Family Pet

Mother Watches in Horror as Cops Shoot Family Pet, Mace Baby

Friday, July 25, 2008
Quote:
A mother carrying her four-month-old baby watched in horror as police doused her family's beloved pet dog Daisy in capsicum spray and then shot her dead.

Daisy had become tangled in her leash causing her to fight with the family's other dog Princess but, before Kirsten Small could intervene, plainclothes police killed the Staffy Cross.

The 32-year-old mother was carrying baby Eva in a sling on her front and the pair was covered by the capsicum spray aimed at Daisy, leaving Small fearing for her daughter's safety.
Daisy's playmate Bugsy was also with her on a leash and, like Small, was still traumatized yesterday by the shooting outside her Ermington home last Thursday.

""There are no charges being considered with regards to the police or the owner in relation to the prevention of animal cruelty acts," she said."

Why am I not surprised? I wouldn't rest until I knew that so-called cop didn't do anything more significant that parking attendant.

The use of this type of pepper spray on a animal already stressed by the incident would lead to further violent response. It would not understand what is happening.

The use of pepper spray around a young child who ended up receiving part of the spray is something that the police department needs to investigate. A young child's respiratory tract is very fragile.

It would appear that the officers involved here, over stepped the means needed to control the situation. They endangered the lives of other people for no reason.

Dogs are immune to pepper spray, it has no effect on them.

I have heard otherwise. As a paramedic we used them on dogs when attacked.

Will pepper spray work on bears and dogs?

Pepper spray is effective on dogs and other wild animals. To protect you from bear /dog attacks, purchase [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. and [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. that is specifically formulated and clearly labeled for deterring attacks by bears or dogs.

All I know is we kept pepper spray on our vehicle for protection against unruly people if confronted. We also used it on dogs and it was quite effective.

You're correct, it's CS they are immune too, not OC. Please remember too, officers are faced with split second decisions and then subject to unlimited scrutiny. Granted this sounds awful, right or wrong, he was most likely doing what he thought was necessary. Keep in mind, most police are not trained to deal with situations involving aggressive dogs. This is unfortunate, but should be used as a lesson for both use of force and animal confrontations.

You might want to reread this article. They entered onto private property and did not announce who they were and started spraying the spray. It got into the face of a little child.

There was no split second response needed here.

I have many friends and family members that are police and they find fault as well.
