AN 11-year old American boy who had most of his arm bitten off by an alligator escaped by poking it in the eye.

Police in Slidell, Louisiana, said Devin Funck was playing with friends in water at a housing estate about 30km northeast of New Orleans when the 3m alligator pulled him under.
Relatives told The Times-Picayune newspaper the boy poked the alligator in the eye and escaped.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - A 16-year-old girl has bagged a 10-foot alligator in a South Carolina swamp.
At 3 a.m. — and with a crossbow.
The State newspaper in Columbia reported that Cammie Colin — a 10th grader, softball player and cheerleader — was probably the youngest female to ever bag an alligator in South Carolina.

Colin, at 5-foot 4-inches and 120 pounds, was the only person in her group authorized to shoot the 353-pound gator. The Lexington resident was with a guide, her father, an uncle and her brother in an 18-foot boat early Sunday in the headwaters of Lake Marion.

Texas-born Simon Hughes, 5, doesn’t look intimidating. But put a gun in his hands and pit him against an 800-pound alligator and it’s a different story.
Simon's been training to handle a gun since he was just 4, his dad told MyFOXHouston — and it's a good thing, too, or else he could've gotten hurt by the mega-gator that wound up on the Hughes family ranch.
The huge alligator bit into a baited hook in a marsh on the property, coming face-to-face with Simon. The boy reacted with lightning speed, grabbing his gun and shooting the reptile in the head.
"It come out, the biggest alligator I've ever seen," Simon told MyFOXHouston. "He did his death roll."
The reptile was nearly 20 times the 3-foot, 44-pound boy’s size. It didn't survive the shooting
