Vet Students Cheer Homeless People, Pets

The Mercer Pet Clinic, in Sacramento, is planning on spreading some holiday cheer to homeless pets in need of a good chew toy or two.

SACRAMENTO -- They have fur on their backs and owners at their side, but something is different about this community of pets: They, like their owners, are homeless, mainly calling the Sacramento streets their home.
These homeless pets' unusual circumstances, however, shouldn't bar them from receiving proper veterinary care, say volunteers at the Mercer Veterinary Clinic.
Housed at a shelter in Sacramento, Loaves and Fishes, the clinic has provided these pets with medical treatment for 15 years.
