Cat Leash laws for Cats?

Quote:
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -– An angry resident in Wichita, Kan., wants the city council to adopt a leash law to keep his neighbor's cats out of his yard.
Howard Feiner says he has no issue with cats themselves, but he does object to cleaning up kitty poop.
In Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, La., Green Bay, Wisc., and Henderson, Nev., as well as in dozens of other places, cats that roam the streets free are considered criminals.

My neighbor has several cats that are allowed to just run, they are out side all the time. Due to his attitude I get the honor of cleaning up the messes they make in my yard, in my garage, my trash when they get into it and PAYING for their lovely footprint scratches all over the vehicles.

Cat owners should be just as regulated as dog owners...including required to have shots up to date and a license. IF my dogs ever did any of the above mentioned on his property you can bet I would have to pay for it and animal control would be called.

My daughter had a cat that was wild as they come
He would like to spend most of his day outside
Well one day we get a visit from the police
Turns out its illegal to let your cat run loose with out a bell on his collar, to warn the birds
Pretty funny I thought

Years ago, one of the neighbors was feeding all the feral cats in the area. After she moved, another neighbor borrowed one of those have-a-heart type animal traps, and one-by-one we managed to catch the critters.

At the time, the local pet store would spay or neuter feral cats free of charge, so we had them all fixed and returned them to live out the rest of their lives in the neighborhood.

One of those cats lived for over 15 years -- which is a long time for a feral cat. He lost part of his tail somewhere along the way, so we nicknamed him "Stubbs".

Well, Stubbs and I weren't friends. In fact, he pissed me off. I always kept bird and squirrel feeders in the yard, and one winter I started finding headless birds on the ground. One morning I found maybe eight or nine of my little feathered friends.

I called a bird sanctuary and asked what I was dealing with... and his answer was that this was most likely due to a well-fed cat "playing" with my birds. From that day on, every time I saw old Stubbs sunning himself on the concrete pad at the door of our shed, I thought of the pellet gun. But I just could not bring myself to do it.

Instead, the bird feeders came down... and did not return the rest of the winter. It's funny, but the following year he let them alone.

I do believe that this will be our first winter without Stubbs. I haven't seen him since last year.

Why am I telling this story? The thread's about leash laws, for cryin' out loud. So typical -- I start talking and forget where I'm headed... LOL

Oh well, I gotta get my shower and head into work now. Such is life.

My cats don't leave my house. For one, they are house cats, not farm cats. For two, I have no desire to have to remove partial dead animals from my house!

One of my cats likes to think he's an outside cat, but the few times he has gotten out, he just cowers in the grass freaking out until we pick him up and take him back inside!

Our county requires collars and ID tags on all dogs and cats. It is required even if they are indoor only.
