Feeding wildlife?

Does anyone feed the birds or other wildlife during the winter?

My dad used to all year long from humming bird feeders to grape jam and oranges and sunflower seeds in the fall. I think I might try it this spring.

I don't
They say its very hard on birds especially to get them used to feeding then cut off the food supply
Many birds stay in a area longer because of the food
Because my money is never consistent I don't want some poor animal freezing or suffering because they didn't migrate on time because of me

But I applaud you who do

I used to feed them when I had left over Parrot food, but don't do that anymore.

We could never figure out how to keep the squirrels out of the feeders and keep the dogs from eating the remains of the seed...

The only time I ever fed wildlife was when I put some indian corn out on the back porch after Thanksgiving. The squirrels went nuts on it. A couple of them were waiting by my backdoor one morning after they finished it off looking for more!

My wife puts cat food on the porch during winter if she sees a lost cat trying to survive. Then, she has to chase away the raccoons and possum. Regulations prohibit feeding deer in southern Michigan. If deer congregate, it may lead to the spread of deer wasting disease.

I rescued a adolescent male raccoon in the spring and trying to make sure he was eating till he learned to feed himself turned into feeding about 5 full grown Raccoons as well. Its Illegal to intentionally feed a raccoon but I simply told anyone that asks that I was feeding the cat and the raccoon liked the food too and if they wanted to take the food away just wait till I get the camera and phone so I can film the carnage for Youtube and call 911. I really need to upload the pics of the lil monster, he was sooo much fun to play with.
