My dog got into paint.

I'm an irresponsible dog owner, I guess. We just got a house, and I was painting in the family room... I just stirred the paint and put the stick down on the tarp, walked about 3 steps up the ladder and I saw a blur... our new puppy ran into the room, grab the paint stick and took off for the master bedroom.

I caught up with her but not before she put her paws on the wet part and started chewing on the dry end. There was red paint eveywhere, on her paws... on her ears, all over the floor. Good thing we're getting new carpet. We cleaned her up... most of it came off except what's on her ear. I started worrying about if she ate the paint or not. I watched her during the night... looking at her poop to see if there was any red in it. I guess she knew not to eat the paint.

This puppy is running me through the paces. Everytime I turn around I'm finding her with something in her mouth. This morning she walked up from the basement with a piece of sub florring in her mouth... we're like... where did that come from? I looked around and I still can't figure out where she got it.

Sounds like the little darling needs some chew toys and perhaps a rawhide bone or something similar! Other than that, I won't be much help, because all of my dogs have been obtained after the complete puppy stage.

OMG...that's hilarious. That was pretty much our dog when she was a puppy. She drove my hubby nuts. She ate a bottle of advil, birth control pills, his brand new cowboy boots, remotes, CDs, screen doors. You name it our dog has destroyed it. She is stil distructive if you tick her off. But she's too old to do any real damage.

When I train our dogs, I start them with one chew toy. Then if they get anything else I correct them and give them that one toy. That way they learn only their toy is what they can chew. After they get that down I increase toys.

You might want to confine her space until she learns a bit more.

She has more toys then my kids have. She has a toy that look s like a cat, a frog, a bone... she has a sqeeky alien thing she completely ignores... we have stock in tennis ball companies, she's been through 1 bag of pig ears, she's on her last raw hide. We were told by a vet friend not to give her the bones they sell because they splinter sometimes.

We're normally on top of what she's doing... when she starts getting into stuff we hand her a pigs ear or something... that keeps her busy for awhile. ut since we're in the middle of a move, painting and everything else she's able to take advantage of us. I would have normally put her in a crate when painting... but we just got back from church and she was in there all morning.

She really is a good dog though... she's like one of our kids... just a lot faster. I've never had a dog that's as personable as she is.

After everything that happen last night... I had her in the bed with me (I know bad habit)... but me and my youngest son was wrestling around with her. My wife came into the room was getting into bed with us to play too... Lilly got up, jumped off the bed and went to her crate and laid down. I guess she figured everyone was going to bed, so it was time for her to go to bed too, lol. My wife and I looked at each other, I wish our kids would do that.

On another note....

I remember one time when we were painting the living room and my DH accidently let the German Shepherds in and they came running to me of course, one backed right up against the wet wall with tail wagging.

His tail was completely paint!

BUT, I actually liked the design in the wall he left.......

If that's what she looks like, she's adorable! My cats are the ones that drive me nuts around here. Any flat surface (table, desk, etc) is fair game, no matter how often I get them with the spray bottle of water! If they are in your way, all the better!

I need to put up some pictures. She's a blonde golden retriever... she's a lot bigger now, but the facial expression is about the same. That's why it's hard to get mad at her.

She spreads paint all over the bedroom floor, so the normal reaction would've been anger, yelling, cussing... but she was so cute doing it I couldn't get that mad about it, lol.

I have a ton of stories, lol. Any other dog would have a new home at the dog shelter by now, lol... but lilly is family, lol.

Another example... took her out to pee... when she's done she normally heads for the door... here at the new house I have her on a leash... just in case. So she's almost to the back door and she reaches around and starts biting for the leash... that's normal when she gets into the house she normally takes the leash in her mouth... I guess she doesn't like for it hang behind her as she walks... but this time she took the leash in her mouth and jerked it... I let go... she took off around to the front... I yell... she stops... thinks about it... and takes off again... I follow her and she runs up to the front door, and looks at me like it was my fault. I guess she wanted to go through the front door to get inside. If that was another dog I would've been mad.. but instead I just went inside, lol.

Are you starting to see a pattern here?
