I love my sons Pitt Bull. He is a sweet heart....to people. Not real fond of dogs tho'.

Any dog can be mean it's all on how the owners raise them, just like kids! DUH!!!!

True, but there is some other things that come into play with personalities too.

The Terrier breed is known to be hyper and full of..."Ten feet tall and bullet proof"...attitudes.

So, alot of then don't much care for varmints, dogs, etc....

Any animal with teeth can be dangerous, some breeds get a bad name because of the original reason their breed was developed. Most "bad rep breeds" were created to do a specific guarding/hunting/sport task and over the years these traits have been abused by their owners.

Because of bad breeding and ownership the public is put at risk.

In 1835 in England a law was passed that would make the sport of baiting illegal. People turned to another blood sport which was dog fighting. Selective breeding produced a bull dog with a tendency for dog aggression, greater agility and smaller size which was suitable for the smaller "pits" rather than the larger ones that had been used in the baiting sport.

Pit bulls were "designed" with fighting in mind with the mixes that were used to start this breed.

Today people who wish to bring out these traits do so with no reguard to public safety or the welfare of the animal. Are there good pitbulls? That is a question that will always be debated most agree its not the dog but the environment that the dog grows up in, I would have to also add it is the parents of the puppy and the environment that it grows up in. Do I trust pitbulls NO, do I want one for a neighbor NO.

I dont agree with "breed bashing" or banning people from owning certain breeds I do however support making owners responsible and if they choose to have a dog (or any pet for that matter) that is well known to be dangerous to strangers/people they should be held to a standard that protects the community at large.
