Forbidden Exclamation ANOTHER pet food ...killing more dogs

"A customer service manager at Shanghai Yidi Pet Co. said the company stopped selling Optima brand dog food last week following reports that more than a dozen dogs who ate it had died from aflatoxin poisoning."

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28626069/

I did a google on Optima and here is what I found...

"The latest instance of tainted food, however, appeared to involve an imported product. Optima is a brand of dog food made by Nashville, Tennessee-based Doane Pet Care Co. It was not clear if the pet food sold in China was the U.S. brand."

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/...pi8BwD95LLOH00

I hope they get this one under control before more innocent pets die, yet again.

Be concerned about yourself . Most canned fruit comes from China . How safe do you think that really is . My wife was shocked to see all the Dole and DelMonte products she checked labeled "Product of China "

Well, there is NO doubt that our food supply has taken a dump. And for our governement to accept this crap on our behalf is crazy.

But, Iam worried about the dog food. MY GIRLS mean everything to me.

Guess, I just start making more of their dog food at home.

I remember there was a site that had recipes for homemade dog food. The lady said she would never buy regular dog food since they add so much "extras" to it. She cooked up the ground beef and other stuff in a big pot and then divied it out throughout the week. It would cost more, but who wants to not knowingly poison their own pet.

Making you OWN dog food...tips/cautions

When the last dog food problem was going on I made my own dog food per instructions from my vet, you do have to make sure you get the dog vitiamins along with the good food you have cooked. Talk to your vet about doing this as everyone's dog is different...better to be safe than sorry.

I have used a whole turkey mixed with rice...dont go cheap and try to fill them up with more rice than meat in the mix, its not healthy for them. Veggies are important, garlic is suggested but it has to be COOKED and only used in SMALL amounts. I do know when you switch from one type of food to another you need to make the total change over a weeks time so as not to add stomach up set or alleric reactions to the problem you are already trying to slove.

*** You might want to check for common health problems that your breed is "known" for such as diabetis or pancreaitis, or a specfic problem such as overweight, nursing, pregnat etc.. so you can adjust your homemade food to better fit them.*****

If you cant find good info by doing a google search there are recipie books you can buy for this too.

I had a recipe for dog bisquits, even had the bone shaped bisquit cutter. I do remember the recipe called for cornmeal, peanut butter, and beef boullion. The dogs loved em......
