A 12' Burm couldn't possibly have eaten that child, therefore "an attack" is primary clue #1.

Snakes are not "human"they do not kill indiscriminately.

Even hungry a snake raised in captivity can discern what is "food".
Snakes are some of the "literally"dumbest animals on the planet.
Humans do not smell like rat, rabbit,Guinea pig, chicken etc.
Failure to understand the simplistic instinct of a reptile
allows for exaggerated assumption. To strike out of defense when threatened and to strike when startled is an "instinctive" behavior.

To strike and hold, then Constrict is an entirely different set of actions
which MUST BE INDUCED/MOTIVATED !(smell like food at the very least)

The tragic loss of a young child's life is never an easy issue to deal with.
The snake in question will be exonerated when its all said and done.
Another case of Child Abuse will fall into the statistics.

I hope the "human factor" is punished to the full extent the Law allows.
No one said it ate the girl.

"According to officials, 32-year-old Charles Jason Darnell, the snake's owner and boyfriend of the victim's mother, 23-year-old Jaren Ashley Hare, said he locked the pet snake up in a glass case Tuesday night, but when he awoke Wednesday the snake was missing from the case. He then searched the home and found the snake on 2-year-old Shaunia Hare and noticed bite marks on the child's head.

When Darnell found the snake wrapped around the girl, he stabbed it until he could pry it off the child while others called 911. Another snake, reportedly a 6-foot boa constrictor, was also in the house.
"

But time will tell what the truth really is.

sounds like 'locked up' didnt involve anything more than a latch that even a 2 year old could operate. there should have been an actual lock, whether keyed or a padlock.

and a 2 year old would likely not realize that poking or prodding a snake might anger it. not to blame the child, she was just being a child. think about that, anyone ever had to tell a small child not to harass a pet even though the child thinks they're just playing?

Those are two different snakes, the top pic is a Reticulated Python and the second is a Burmese Python.

Both are very likely still thriving in their native villages.

Although very fascinating creatures, large Boides like these never were my thing. The wife and I keep both Colombian and Central American strains of Boa Constrictors which do not get that big. We have a small collection compared to others comprised of 23 animals, top of the line caging and accessories have us nearing a $25K investment mark in our hobby with these very misunderstood creatures.

Is the python hunt all hype? Scientists try to squeeze some truth into snake search

Quote:
One week after a pet python escaped its terrarium and strangled a 2-year-old girl in Sumter County, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson unfurled a 16-foot python skin at a congressional hearing and warned, "It's just a matter of time before one of these things gets to a visitor in the Florida Everglades."
The next week, he called for forming a python posse to hunt and kill the beasts, citing the "estimated 100,000 or more pythons now roaming the 'Glades." So began the Great Florida Python Hunt, with a special media kickoff in the Everglades during which, miraculously, hunters captured one of the elusive snakes.

Afterward Nelson told The Associated Press: "One down, 99,999 to go." And as recently as this morning, NBC reporter Kerry Sanders - reporting hip-deep from a swamp west of Boynton Beach - announced on the Today Show that "it's estimated there are more than 150,000 wild Burmese pythons on the loose."
Well, not exactly.
The idea that scientists estimate the number of pythons living in the Everglades at 100,000 - or 150,000, according to a news release from U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney of Tequesta - is one of several questionable facts and statistics that have helped propel the Everglades' five-year-old python problem into headlines around the world this month

African Python Threat Growing in Florida

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — It's been about two months since Florida issued a virtual open season on giant invasive Burmese pythons gobbling up rabbits, birds and even small alligators throughout the Everglades. Now there's another nonnative stealthy stalker that could soon be taking up residence in the region — Africa's largest snake, the rock python.

Quote:
Three of these enormous constrictors that can grow to 20 feet and weigh 200 pounds have been found in the last few months in western Miami-Dade County, raising concerns that they could establish a breeding population, just like their Burmese cousins.
In South Florida's Everglades, where nonnative species of plants and animals are rampant, "it's [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. as usual" to find one invasive snake of any kind, said Scott Hardin, exotic species coordinator for the state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Why oh why oh why is it legal for people to even own these monstrosities let alone import and breed em???? Likewise the owners, breeders, importers of "hot" snakes (highly venomous). How'd you like to live next door to one of these lunatics who got bored with his king cobra and turned it loose?

Its all a witch hunt for Government funding due to the contamination from the Sugar Mills.
American Bureaucracy at it simplest form
The focus is directed at an animal that can only survive in an isolated region of Florida.

I am a snake breeder and well versed in the current
legislation on this topic. I can save anyone the trouble of going toe to toe here on this forum by directing you to
google USARK and read their current advancements in fighting this witch hunt.

Again,it has nothing to do with the snakes, they have been established there for many years. They will never have the "environmental impact" that the other 1,250+ invasive species has caused the "ENTIRE UNITED STATES" in the last two "DECADES".
