Everglades swamped with invading pythons

Quote:
THE EVERGLADES, Florida (Reuters) – The population of Burmese pythons in Florida's Everglades may have grown to as many as 150,000 as the non-native snakes make a home and breed in the fragile wetlands, officials said Thursday.
Wildlife biologists say the troublesome invaders -- dumped in the Everglades by pet owners who no longer want them -- have become a pest and pose a significant threat to endangered species like the wood stork and Key Largo woodrat.
"They eat things that we care about," said Skip Snow, an Everglades National Park biologist, as he showed a captured, 15-foot (4.6-meter) Burmese python to U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, who was on his first fact-finding mission to the Everglades since the Obama administration took office.
With Snow maintaining a strong grip on its head, the massive snake hissed angrily at Salazar and the other federal officials who gathered around it at a recreation area off Alligator Alley in the vast saw grass prairie. It took two other snake wranglers to control the python's body.

That "Media Assault" doesn't tell the entire story
They are trying to ban private ownership of several species of snakes
using some of the worst bureaucracy to date.

I am a Snake keeper myself, its a wonderful hobby to be in.
The government wants it's part of the pie and to get it they must
have a measure of control.

It only takes a few to ruin things for everyone, that said, there has to be a way to protect the native animals and environment. There are snakes loose down there that kill people, so somethings gotta be done.

From what I have read and heard on the news, it is very plausible that within the next 5 years there will be many pythons in the everglades capable of consuming an adult human.

It's sad that some snake keepers have proven themselves irresponsible and now the government will increase regulation to deal with the threat.

I've seen the science shows where some of these monster snakes have tried, and failed, to eat some of the smaller crocodiles. Snake was too stupid to realize that it was trying to eat too much.

The only snakes "down there" that have the "potential" to kill
people are native/indigenous .
The Burms and Retics have "NEVER" been reported killing anyone in Florida.
Much less any "FACTUAL" else where in the world.(their native country)

What is sad is people not pursuing the actual truth when topics such
as this arise.
The majority of the animals in question were released by natural causes.
Hurricanes have destroyed many homes and facilities over the years where these animals were once securely contained and very well cared for.
Just because an animal is capable of consuming a prey item as large as a human in no way validates a high percentage of probability.
The majority of prey items are generally much smaller and much easier
to consume.Big Snakes are not like humans, they kill food when hungry for survival.
Being literally some of the dumbest animals on the planet
snakes will soon lose that position as the technology dependent
human population continues their encroachment.

The Government will fail in their attempts to yet again try
to control something that doesn't need controlling.
More new Laws for the books that will fail to be enforced like the
ones that are already there.

The damage that has already been done by the other 300+ non native invasive species to Florida's eco-system is irreversible and on going.
of which DIRECTLY EFFECT HUMAN POPULATION.

Have you ever watched Animal Cops?...they have caught Cobras of various types in FL, puff adders and a couple of others I have forgotten the names of. I am not saying they were intentionally released maybe a storm did set them free....just saying they are down there, they are free and they can/do have the ability to kill people with their venom.
