6 Pet Health Hazards at the Groomer's

Quote:
Hey, it's hard being a dog — or a cat — for that matter. All that lying around during the day, eating biscuits (or catnip), chasing toys, going for walks ... it might not be a 9-5 job, but it still has its demands, which is why your furry, four-legged friend deserves an indulgent day at the spa.
OK, so the "spa" is really called the "groomer's" and there aren't any mud masks or massages, but we're willing to bet that Fluffy and Fido will enjoy a blowout and pedicure — no matter how much they put up a fight.
“I think that groomers are a good thing for our pets,” said Dr. David Bessler, senior emergency clinician at NYC Veterinary Specialists. “Without groomers, they wouldn’t have dignity, and they would have health problems from mats (in their fur). I see a lot of accidents when people try to take grooming into their own hands.”
That said, certain hazards can occur at the groomer's, even if by accident.

I visited my best friend for a couple nights a while back. Her 8 year old cocker wasn't her usual self. She was acting a bit strange and I asked my bud if she was ok? She said, she was groomed the previous day and seemed a bit off. I petted her neck when I felt something strange. She also jumped a bit. I lifted her head and saw a huge gash on her neck..... Told my friend to come look at it and when she did, she was really upset. It looked like the groomer had cut her with a pair of scissors. We took her to the kitchen with better lighting to get a good look at it and then cleaned it up. A few hours later, she vomited on the floor and shivered. She was okay after a couple of days. My friend felt that it was just an honest mistake as she had been taking her dogs to the same groomer for the last 5 years with no problems.

I have a cockapoo and groom her myself. Once in a while I will take her to a groomer who I trust with her. It's very hard to find a decent groomer. I refuse to use Petsmart and Petco. They are not reputable in my opinion to groom dogs.
