Sounds to me like she needs a good work out THEN to be fed, then to be rewarded with physical/verbal love. Dont use a regular collar on her if she slips it, use a halti or someother type that she cant get out of thus leaving the WALKER in control. This walk should be with intention and for about 30 minutes probably.

DONT let her walk infront of you, only beside you, go only where YOU want to not where she wants. Take control of the walk and you take control of the dog. When you feed her, put the food in her dish (I hope its dry) with YOUR hands thus placing your scent on her food.

Getting her exercised is the most important step in getting her back to her old self so to speak...IMO. I would google Cesar and read up on what he has to say. There is hope if she is not yet doing it all the time in every situation. YOU cant let her snap and then retreat and thats the hard part. I have had grooming dogs here that were #### on the table until about 20 minutes of me not giving in and then they learn, some take longer.

Dont give up if you can keep working with her you just might beable to bring her around. Walk her first thing in the morning and a couple of times during the day too. I know being in a truck thats not easy but she needs it.

I'm not an expert on dogs, but I am a dog lover. While I agree that the alpha dog syndrome is possible, I have my doubts. I encourage you to make a phone call to your vet to ask his/her opinion. Here is an article I found by using the search terms "dog behavior change bites". Good luck and I hope the little guy/gal is OK.

Thanks, luv!
I do ALL of these things, but am consistently undermined by hubby.
"she's just a dog! she needs love, not discipline"....type of mentality.
One day, she is going to SERIOUSLY bite one of us, and then, because hubby hasn't "gotten with the program", I'll have to insist she be gotten rid of to someone who WILL "let her know who's boss".

I understand, she has a pack mentality, with ALL that infers. Unfortunately, my hubby just sees her as a cuddly pet, not a potential danger when she feels she is "alpha".

Judi Kay

P.S. She eats the halters off! I don't know how, cuz I put them on snug enough, but not too much. We have bought 4, and she has managed to eat all off in the middle of the night!

Try a Martingale type collar.
It is a dominance thing as well as possessive. She thinks it's her bed or truck.
You have to re-establish yourself as Alpha.
Good tips about the exercise. Don't feed her on a schedule. Feed her when YOU want. Make sure you always eat first. Never share your food with her.
Good luck.

I wouldnt leave the halter on all the time ONLY when you plan to take her out of the truck, the rest of the time keep a collar on her.

I have 6 dogs here in the house with me....I NEVER let them go out a door or gate before me, I am first, they get out when I say so...I feed them when I want not a 7am everyday like they would prefer.

A dog that bites is a DANGER to its owners as a legal problem, not to mention the pain and costs of a dog bit to either of you. I was playing with my dog last years just PLAYING and got dug by a tooth.....what a PAIN and the medical bills were about 400.00 all said and done.

YOUR hubby is causing a problem by not allowing her rules/disapline for sure. Dogs like children need strcture inorder to be happy. Maybe the snapping is an expression of her not being happy....as in needs more activity and RULES.
Tell hubby if she bites it will costs him $$$ and probably in the end cause her to be put down as it would NOT be responsible to sell/give away a dog with such behavior problems without letting the receiver know all the details.

When she snaps...or even looks like she's thinking about it, knock the $H1T out of her one good time.

I have owned and trained coonhounds most of my life...its common for them to be aggressive (actually preferred, up to a point) and this has worked for me.

Be nice until its time to stop being nice...

Sounds like it's time to teach that dog the old saying, You don't bite the hand that feeds you. If she can't learn it time to put her down.

Thanks, everyone. it's just hard, when hubby doesn't co-operate. He feeds her bites of his food, WHILE he's eating, and basically just let's her "rule the roost".

Makes it really meaningless to her, when I attempt to put things right, and let her know I AM the alpha....
I've already told hubby, if she bites me, she's gonna be put down, whether he wants it or not, and will be his fault...

We have one that rules the roost!

If she is sleeping and one of the other dogs even looks like stepping anywhere near her she comes out from under her Blanket snarling!

Her favorite chew toy right now is my finger

IMO: This is not the answer to the problem..kinda like beating a kid all your doing is teaching them to be afraid of you, not respect you. If your working with a dog or any animal and you feel physical harm is the only way to train them then its time for a break for the both of you.
