Help this Man and his dog! Please!

We Need YOUR Voice., to speak up and help this man. PLEASE HELP HIM !

A homeless man's best friend is taken away from him and now that Dauphin County man has filed a lawsuit in Federal court to get his dog back. He's suing the Harrisburg Area Humane Society and a Middletown Borough Police Officer.

73-year-old Miles Thomas wanted proof that his buddy, Baron, was still alive. But the Harrisburg Area Human Society wouldn't let him see his dog, after they took him away last month. So Miles hoped for the best. That's until CBS 21 News showed him a picture the Humane Society sent us; proof, they say, that the dog is alive and doing well.

" Oh jeez. Yeah that's him. Yep, that's him. Oh boy, do I ever(miss him)," said Miles Thomas, filed federal lawsuit.

When CBS 21 News went to see the dog at the Humane Society, they wouldn't let us and told us to leave. Instead they sent this statement saying:

" Baron is considered to be living evidence in a Federal court case and thus is not currently available for visitation or release."

Miles is a former Harrisburg School District Board Member, a veteran, who after losing his wife to Alzheimer's three years ago, developed a heart condition and lost his home. Now living in his car and sometimes in a motel room.

" He was the most important thing in my life, he really was, since my wife died, he was the one thing that really kept me going," said Thomas. The Man bawled and cried for his dog!

Miles says it wasn't a hot day in July, when he left the windows rolled down, while Baron sat inside the car. When Miles got back having lunch at the restaurant , Baron was gone. So now, Miles filed a Federal lawsuit against the Harrisburg Area Humane Society and a Middletown PA Borough Police Officer, who allegedly and initially took his dog; a dog that Miles says he takes really good care of.

You can read this article , www. CBS21. com and voice your opinion and call or email the Humane Society of Harrisburg, PA!

Here is a copy of the email I sent to the Executive Director of that facility..

I am writing in regards to Mr. Miles Thomas, and your taking of his dog.
Outrageous!
This mans beloved pet was NOT mistreated, malnourished, nor neglected!
You took away a 76 yr. old mans dearest friend.
If you have any humanity to you at all, you will return his friend to him.

I am saddened at such cruelty on your part to this dog and his human friend!!!

Sincerely,
Judi XXXXXX

Sorry but the dog should have been tied up out side of the car
The metal roof on the car, windows up or down will bake the dog

It is my understanding that the man was only inside the diner long enough to order a carry-out meal. He had left the windows down in upper 70 to lower 80 degree weather, for no more than 10-15 minutes.

Baron would not have baked, got dehydrated, or died in that time.
The owner was inside ordering a take-out meal for the BOTH of them, and he came out to find his friend had been taken away.
That is what my understanding of the situation is..

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CN) - An aging veteran who lost his house after his wife died of Alzheimer's says police completed his misery by taking away his dog because they were forced to live in his car. Miles Thomas, a retired businessman and former school board member, says the Middletown Police Department and the Harrisburg Area Humane Society are hiding his collie, Baron, on the bogus claim they are "rescuing" it, though Thomas now lives at a farm where Baron would have room to roam.
Thomas developed a heart condition and lost his home after his wife died and early this year he and Baron had to live in his car. Thomas says a John Doe tow truck driver took away his car on June 18 and he had to pay $150 to get it back.

A month later, he says, a Middletown cop seized Baron, with no due process - not even an incident report. The temperature was in the 70s, with a light breeze, and the car windows were open and Baron was not in danger.

But Thomas says defendant William Sandstrom, a "Humane Police Officer" for the Harrisburg Area Humane Society, took away Baron, under threat of arrest. The added stress sent Thomas to the hospital.

Thomas says "there is a very well documented history" that the Harrisburg Area Humane Society profits by seizing animals illegally and selling them. ( my opinion- I know this shelter and they have only pitbulls in there. Yeah, they want that nice looking Collie to sell for 300. That was my first thoughts even before reading this article)

He says the Society is falsely claiming that Baron needs veterinary care, though he was healthy when they stole him. If the dog is ill, Thomas says, it from the cruel, inhumane and filthy Humane Society kennels.

His court hearing is set for Sept 3.

If you agree that Baron should be returned to his owner, instead of being stuck in a noisy, stressful cage at the Humane Society, please contact them and let them know - by phone, my mail or email! Both Baron and Mr. Thomas deserve our support!!! [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.

Sadly, the only people the Harrisbug Humane Society sells dogs to are research labs, so the dogs get to scream out the remainder of their lives. They love getting Malamutes down there, because of the high pain tolerance of the breed. I loathe the humane society.

Here is what I wrote:

I am outraged at the way your chapter of the Humane Society has handled Mr. Thomas' case, and the "abduction" of his pet. What is it going to take for him to get it back? Pay a ransom? Go to jail? Give you the shirt off his back, since that is pretty much all he has left.

Considering you have all disgraced yourselves in the public eye at this point, you may want to consider giving this widowed man his best friend back.

I am widowed myself, my dog is my best friend. Fortunately I have not lost everything I own, including my dog since my spouses death. And even more fortunate for me, I have never had to deal with people who would take everything I have left in my life that I love.

You people have the compassion of a Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini rolled into one. I can only hope you will never have to go through what this man or myself have.

You should be ashamed.

Sabine

That is horrible! Not that it matters now, but how long was that baby in the van? Were any windows open, etc.?

Humans succumb to extremes in temperatures much more easily than animals.

Which brings me right back to Baron, and his owner, Mr. Thomas.
Baron was not in any danger of dehydration, malnourishment, nor was he neglected, abused, or mistreated.

What "right" did this "humane" society have in taking this healthy, happy, well-taken care of, and LOVED pet away from this man???
