Been procrastinating on posting this

Because I am worried about the answers I may get.

But here goes. I have a pup, Ted the dog. He is 5 pounds and 4 years old. You can see his photo on my profile if you like Anyway, first, how much chance is there I "could" take him with me in a "company owned" rig?

If I was able to bring him along, I have a problem also with that. He is well-behaved and minds excellent, well-trained, but, he barks and even when I say "no" he doesn't stop. I would like to break him of this if anyone has any tips. I don't mind that initial bark for a heads-up, warning but he won't shut up until I scold and scold, sending him to his bed. Also, this dog is just so clingy that I have to fight to keep him from jumping out ahead of me. Need to break him of that too. I've had him a year but we just haven't gone in the truck(my Ford Ranger)that much. If I am with a trainer for 6 months he/she will kill me if I don't get this dog trained right.

Help!! I really don't want to give him away as he has been passed around 2 times, 3 counting me, already. I suspect it's because he is so clingy. I think training will do it. But just gotta get it done before I take him with, if they will allow it.

thanks in advance for any help, Denise

Some co's do have pet policies for small animals. You have to put a pet deposit down usually. I have never run with a pet so I don't have any traveling advice for you. A trainer will not want a pet along. That will be a solo issue if allowed. Some don't want a student along. Esp if a student tries to bring everything they own with them.

Ok, but before I pay much attention to this, you have to tell me that the photo/avatar is not you LOL!!!

All fun aside, it makes sense Ted couldn't come into train with me, but are you also talking about that 6-months of riding with a trainer? I think you may be. Well, I know I can keep him somewhere for that 6 months. Hard but not so hard as not having a good job, as I know truck-driving will be Denise PS Thank you much!

Well; if I face the other direction for the pose that is my good side and I can't get no driving done because all the women throw themselves at me. No trainer in a truck will want a pet along. To small of a area and a pet is not even in the picture. Don't even bother asking. Right now you will be doing good to get on a trainer truck with a good co without any excess baggage. Your welcome.....

If you are talking about sneaking him on, breaking him of barking and jumping out is very important.

But if are talking about a pet allowing co, its not as big a deal with the barking, but the jumping out if my dog do that he can hurt himself and he's a big guy. Your little guy could SERIOUSLY injure himself. I've had to take my boy to the vet TWICE for hurting himself getting in and out of the truck, nothing serious, but I don't like to see my 5,000 dollar dog limping in any way. Both times he had just hit his leg on the step during his exit. I am trying to find a little ramp that folds up so we can fit it in the truck.

The barking issue, this is a little dog issue. A big little dog issue, but there are things we can do about it. Try sound diversion. Buy a loud whistle, or one of those loud air horns cans. When the barking starts, blow the whistle/airhorn. Not close to the dog, just blow it in the area, it should immediately redirect her attention onto you. When she does shutup, praise the #### out of her. If the sound doesnt work, try pressurized air in a can. It wont hurt her, but the sound of air plus the felling of it near of her head will work. Everytime the dog barks you need to use the airhorn. You have to decide either she can bark or she cannot. Because its confusing to her if you say its ok to bark now, but not now. So you have to be consistent. One she links her barking with the annoying sound, she will quit. It won't take long didn't take my pom long.

Your welcome, but see I was right... I'm showing my bad side for the pic and you are calling me handsome. Imagine the problems involved if I posed on my good side...

No, I wouldn't sneak. I will take your tips on the barking. The calming him down will be harder but I am researching the web for ideas as well. He is clingy because he thinks he is getting left behind. Which naturally, I have to do that at times. For example, when I go somewhere in the heat I don't take him, like to the store. I think the barking thing can be solved, the clingy thing, I don't know. Never could break a man of that LOL! But hopefully, with Ted, it may be different. Thank you again, denise
PS Had a Z28 I loved

Dang it driver... in the other thread you said you and hubby could barely pay the bills or afford a cell phone to keep in contact. 5 grand for a dog? We got free cats that we paid too much for....
