While those are some very beautiful snakes you have, I have to side with Ducks. Snakes scare me silly.

As long as I know wht variety they are, I am okay. But if I cannot ID them, I'm getting the hell out of their way!

Society has a very twisted perception of these creatures,of which 99% is unwarranted fear passed thru generations.Beliefs instilled at early ages compound when surprise encounters thru nature(walking up on one) or (little Jimmy putting one in a girls hair)

Snakes are not bad or evil as most are taught to believe, they are wild animals. With proper care and patience they can be "conditioned" to co-exist with humans

Once "understood" they are some of them most amazing creatures God has on this planet.
You are absolutely correct, Tater! I fear them because I do not understand them... and I don't know how to "read" them. Most animals exhibit understandable body language that lets you know whether they perceive you as friend or foe and you can proceed from there. While a snake will sometimes just stop and stare, I have no clue whether it plans to just slither away or strike. Compound that with the fact that I don't know a poisonous from a non-poisonous snake, and you can probably understand my fear.

Their colors and patterning are amazing, though, eh?

Not to be an asshatt, but what is the purpose of having snakes? They don't seem like very social animals. Like you said, they can't be domesticated. I might be wrong but they don't come across as great companions either.

Is it just a general love for animals that you have them?

Again, just trying to understand the allure..

Your nuts FriedTater, I consider myself to be a fairly "Manly Man", however snakes just freak me out. Had a small one in high school, and it was shedding, and i reached in to grab it, and it latched onto my hand, and since then they give me the creeps.

First house we bought was a 2 story with a basement. We let my sister have the upstairs when she was in college. She had a albino king snake with red eyes. Evil looking thing... Did I mention my wife hates snakes???? One night I was in the basement. I heard my wife (red head) say you better find that thing..... It was in a big aquarium. There was a brick on top of the lid. Pegboard. It stood up and pushed the lid off... thought my wife was going to burn the place down...

You're a glutton for punishment, aren't you? Married to a redhead that hates snakes and having one in the house.... that could be dangerous to everyone involved.....

Well growing up in the wilds of Texas,we have 158 different species of native snakes. I did my best to catch all of them
Anti-Social? You bet! they could care less about a human and for the most part avoid all dealings with.

General LOVE? yeah I guess you could say that, but its more then that.
I have started from scratch(newborn) and raised them to adult stage(4yrs)
thru careful care with quality cageing, state of the art digital enviroment control(temp/humidty) and have been successful at getting them to reproduce and have healthy litters.
One of the coolest things on earth is to witness a life cycle begin and come full circle to continue a species.

Although the market has recently hit the crapper, the Reptile Pet Market
is hundreds of Millions of dollars a year and has been for well over 20 years. Hot new color mutations hit in the $10K-$25,000 range,no that isnt a misprintNo there arent many in that range, the average for the current designer stuff is $1K-$2,500 each which are about 4 months old.

Selling offspring at fair market prices helps defer operating expenses
The returns only come with successful breeding of marketable animals
so you have to make the right choices and hope the market holds
over the 4 year period.

I could rattle page after page about this hobby . . . . .
Hope that gives abit of insight though . . .
