With the dog still alive even after being beaten with a hammer, I would say it had a pretty good chance of survival after the accident. Should have taken it to the vet.

How can you blame the dog's owner?
A smart, motivated dog will find a way to get out, or even slip out if someone carelessly left a gate open.
Irregardless of why the dog was in the road, what could that possibly have to do with a deranged lunatic weilding a hammer and machete?
He was obviously a sadist and the injured dog was merely convenient.
Who do you know that would even think to do that?

Sounds like they were both lunatics in my opinion, but I was willing to give the driver the benefit of the doubt in thinking that he just tried to put the dog out of its misery in a less than desirable fashion. It was the owner of the dog that tried to "wale" on the driver with the machete.

Put the dog out of it's misery by beating it with a hammer????

You have obviously never loved an animal.

Since it was obviously in front of the house, why not go to the house?

Easy to dial 911 and they will dispatch an officer or the dog catcher department.

Just another psycho, in my opinion.

I agree, but unfortunately some people will just never "get it".

I ran over a big German Shepard once in front of its owner. I came around a curve on a rural highway and hit him. The guy had another dog with him walking on the other side of the road.

I felt bad about it but I could not avoid. The only option I had was drive my truck into a deep ditch.

See? People need to use leashes. So many dogs are around here running all over. I yell at owners when they let dogs run free and annoy my dogs I am walking WITH leashes. Pet owners share in the responsibility of acting irresponsible ....

I agree. But keep in mind that accidents happen. Dogs sometimes escape a well-meaning owner's boundaries regardless of how it is confined. I have a fenced yard, and I am very careful, but still I pray it never happens to mine.
