GRAND RAPIDS -- The early reviews were not kind.
"Too big. Too dumb. Too rowdy."
So said the Ohio family that dumped a dog named Harlan on a shelter there, after they grew tired of the shaggy Labradoodle. Little did they know he was destined for the bright lights of Hollywood. In stepped Grand Rapids dog lover Laurel Barrick, 58, who took Harlan into her home in 2007.
Not long after, she got a call from a California woman with movie and television connections: Could she adopt Harlan?
