Worst truck stop you have been to

There are two that come to mind...

Drums, PA Pilot, wow this place is a real [crappy place]. Oh, and of course how can I forget the Birmingham, AL Pilot. This has to be the worst. Filled up their on my way down to JAckson AL, got approached by some guy who wanted to sell me some gold chains, was walking around bothering everyone at the pumps. Then I stopped their again on my way back north to WI. Guess what, approached by another buy trying to sell a laptop, "Hey you wanna buy a vaio, still in the box brand new, 300 bucks. come on man help a brother out". I said no thanks leave me alone. And both times I was in Birmingham their was a cop standing inside. Let alone it took almost a half hour just to get close to the pumps.

i gotta say the "old" 76 in Gary, In. i do believe it would be a T/A now though. a co-driver came in the bathroom with a stab wound. apparently, his co-driver didn't like him....????

and some "independant" truckstop(???) in Florida that was basically inside of or at least next to (shared an entrance) to a junkyard. dirtiest of all the places, and scarey too, till i stopped at a "Starvin-Marvin" in Florida as well. broken toilets, but you still needed a key for the bathroom....!! dirty floors inside the store, dirty food preperation areas, and dirty coffeee machines. needless to say, my "urinary urge" was quickley "held back", till i went to the parking lot and let "go" there, as the parking lot at least, had less garbage/smells than that good ol' "Starvin-Marvin" place.........

To their credit though, somebody there found my wallet after I lost it there and mailed it to Stevens HQ in Dallas (I kept my drivers license and COMDATA card separate in case I lost it/got mugged) completely intact. Too bad I had already cancelled all my credit cards.

Got a qualcomm from my fleet manager at the time that my wallet had been mailed to Dallas and I was routed ASAP back to the yard to pick it up.

Jessup TA- stopped there in July 05. After a heavy thunderstorm, the lot was full of water. Of course, since it had been covered in urine, the lot stunk like a blown up water treatment plant!

Re: Worst truck stop you have been to

TJ- that sucks- it's one thing to have to pay to park, it's another to get woken up in the night and have to pay. The only few times I've been out there, I was either delivering to Save-A-Lot (or Save-Mor, can't remember which, in WInchester) or going to Kimper,KY (to pick up Nutri Grain and poptarts). The one time I had to stop around there I found a quiet on/off ramp and slept there.

Always get up and see why some moron is pounding on your door. Last summer I pulled a U-Turn in the middle of I-74 (in my BroncoII) to get to a Pete in the the East bound Rest area that was on fire. Took me along time to get that guy out of the bunk. Said he thought I was a cop wanting him to move his illegaly parked truck. What an idiot. Nobody else tried to help him......
